  • Italian brand to makes U.S. retail debut

    New York City -- Italian handbag maker Piero Guidi will open its first retail location in the United States, in New York City’s Soho district. The Soho store will be the company's fourth standalone store outside of Italy, following openings in China, Japan and Hong Kong.

  • Macy's snags big name Italian designer for capsule collection

    NEW YORK — Macy’s announced Giambattista Valli as the fourth designer in its collaboration series to create a capsule collection for the retailer’s fashion “Impulse” department later this fall. Known for extravagant designs and great party dresses, the collection will be Valli’s first foray into affordable fashion, the company reported.

  • Nordstrom, Express announce NYC-area stores

    New York City -- Nordstrom announced Monday that its new Treasure&Bond concept will open in SoHo on Friday, according to a report by the New York Times. The boutique-style store, which represents a new market entry for Nordstrom, will be a fraction of the size of a typical Nordstrom department store and all profits will be donated to charity. Merchandise is funkier, but is not discount like its Nordstrom Rack sister. 

  • Game on for sports fans at Old Navy

    NEW YORK — Gap’s Old Navy unit rolled out more than 1,000 sports-oriented store-within-stores Tuesday, selling branded goods of more than 70 Division I schools, as well as National Football League teams.

    The Super Fan Nation in-store concepts are being launched with a seven-figure marketing campaign that will include advertising at college stadiums and arenas, in-store appearances by college bands, cheerleaders and mascots, and a 10-day national television advertising campaign.

  • Barneys and Lady Gaga collaborate on 2011 holiday campaign

    New York City -- Barneys New York said Monday it is teaming up with pop singer Lady Gaga on a holiday campaign and Christmas window display to be called Gaga’s Workshop.

    The luxury department store retailer said that, in addition to the Gaga-themed window display, it will devote an entire floor of its Madison Avenue flagship to Gaga’s Workshop. The campaign will also feature limited-edition gift items and specially themed holiday shopping bags and packaging.

  • New survey sheds light on QR code use

    RESTON, Va. — About 6.2% of 14 million mobile phone users have scanned a quick response or bar code on their mobile device, according to a new ComScore survey.

    Among 14,452 users surveyed during the month of June that have scanned a QR or bar code, 58% of them scanned a code at home, while 39.4% and 24.5% of respondents have scanned codes at a retail store or grocery store, respectively. As far as what they scanned, 49.4% said they scanned a QR or bar code found in a newspaper or magazine, while 35.3% scanned product packaging.

  • Office Depot launches mobile back-to-school promotion

    New York City -- Marketing technology company SpyderLynk and Momentum Worldwide announced Friday that Office Depot has launched a national back-to-school mobile campaign that was developed by Momentum, using SpyderLynk’s 2D mobile barcode SnapTag technology.

    The campaign offers back-to-school shoppers the opportunity to save through in-store mobile gift card giveaways and other discounts.
