  • Build-A-Bear Workshop updating store format, business model

    St. Louis -- Build-A-Bear Workshop continues the transformation of its store experience — and business.

    The specialty retailer on Tuesday debuted its updated store design at Mall of America, in Bloomington, Minnesota. Part of a company-wide brand refresh, the reformatted location was developed to increase productivity and optimize space while updating the brand’s overall brand look. New elements include:

    • Sophisticated new logo, store set-up and color palette;

  • Get your Gilt on at new showroom

    In the latest example of clicks to bricks, online upscale discounter Gilt.com has launched a new service at its New York office that sounds a lot like what retailers call a “store.”

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods on the move again

    Pittsburgh – Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. continues to expand its portfolio.

    The retailer plans to open three new stores Sept. 11. Two of the stores will be located in Alabama and one in Arizona.

    Dick’s will open its 13th and 14th stores in Alabama at the Shoppe at Legacy Park in Tuscaloosa and Cullman Shopping Center in Cullman, and ninth store in Arizona at Wilmot Plaza in Tucson. Dick’s will have 628 stores across the U.S. with these openings.

  • Own the Moment Hockey Experience, Burlington, Massachusetts

    Bauer Hockey's first-ever physical store is designed to provide the ultimate showcase for the 88-year-old brand and the sport itself, combining expert help, customer service extras and extensive selection.

    The 20,000-sq.-ft. store features an indoor ice rink where customers can try out equipment before they buy it. Some 25 digital screens show visual highlights of the game and add to the excitement of the space. An on-site laboratory offers expert skate sharpening services.

  • Bebe looks to China for growth

    Brisbane, Calif. – Bebe Stores Inc. continues to expand its global presence.

    Bebe announced it has signed a five-year strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai-based brand agency Longgoal LLC to open between 60 and 150 Bebe stores, shop-in-shops and third-party retailers in Greater China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. The first store is expected to open in the summer of 2016.

  • Walmart fires opening salvo of 2015 holiday season

    The holiday force has awakened earlier than ever at Walmart with the Aug. 28 launch of a major initiative called Toy Week.

    Walmart has released its top toy list of 25 products and announced details of a layaway program that is less restrictive than prior years. The program begins Aug. 28, two weeks earlier than last years, and those participating will find the price point of eligible items has been reduced to $10 with a minimum basket size of $50, there is no account opening fee and only a 10% down payment is required.
