  • Kroger highlights sustainable efforts

    CINCINNATI — Kroger has released its fifth annual sustainability report.

     Some of the highlights noted in the report include:

    • Kroger stores reduced overall energy consumption by 30% since 2000. 

    • Company-wide, including all facilities, Kroger has saved more than 2.2 billion kilowatt hours.

  • Macy's weaves in a good cause with new rug line

    NEW YORK — Macy’s announced that it will offer an exclusive collection of area rugs that have been certified by GoodWeave, an international nonprofit organization that works to ensure rugs made by hand in Nepal and India are free of child labor. The GoodWeave collection, including 20 styles available in various sizes, will be carried in select Macy’s stores in New York and New Jersey.

  • Shareholders not interested in Target’s growth plans

    They are however interested in which political candidates and trade associations receive political donations from the company and what the decision-making process is behind those donations. At least it’s what anyone who attended or listened to a webcast of the company’s shareholders’ meeting last week is left to conclude after listening to the line of questioning that followed prepared remarks by Target chairman, president and CEO Gregg Steinhafel.

  • Wal-Mart makes big donation to New York City summer jobs program

    New York City -- Wal-Mart Stores will donate as much as $5 million to New York City’s cash-strapped Summer Youth Employment Program, Crain’s New York Business reported. The donation will reportedly save 3,400 jobs.

  • P&G and Walmart provide a teachable TV moment

    The latest installment in the dramatic collaboration between Procter & Gamble and Walmart is set to air this Saturday on NBC at 8 p.m. EST. The made-for-TV family movie called “Field of Vision” involves the topical subject of bullying, and in keeping with prior films offer viewers a heavy dose of morality.

  • Blockbuster promotion makes the grade

    MCKINNEY, Texas — Blockbuster announced that it is rewarding good students with its "Good Grades, Free Rental" program. Children in kindergarten through 12th grade who earn a B average or better on their report cards can head to participating Blockbuster stores nationwide to receive a free, one-day, non-new release movie rental.

  • CVS Caremark, VSA announce debut of 2011 All Kids Can Create national touring exhibit

    WASHINGTON — CVS Caremark All Kids Can, a program of the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust and CVS Caremark, and VSA, the international organization on arts and disability, are showcasing their commitment to supporting inclusive arts education with the announcement of the 2011 All Kids Can Create student artists.

  • CVS donates $40K to help Joplin tornado victims

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark announced that it has donated approximately $40,000 in monetary and in-kind donations to support residents of Joplin, Mo., who were impacted by the recent tornado. CVS Caremark and CVS/pharmacy colleagues in the region collected and donated first aid and personal care supplies valued at approximately $35,000 to local relief efforts in Joplin. In addition, CVS Caremark has made a $5,000 donation to the American Red Cross to further support relief efforts in the area.
