  • Kmart’s new viral campaign takes 'yo momma' back to school

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Kmart is kicking it old school this back-to-school season with its latest viral ad campaign, which features “yo momma” jokes. The campaign follows closely on the heels of the retailer’s similarly irreverent "Ship My Pants" and "Big Gas Savings" campaigns.

  • CVS reveals via Facebook it won’t sell Boston Bomber edition of Rolling Stone

    New York -- Forbes reported that CVS has opted not to sell the latest edition of Rolling Stone magazine, which features a photo of “Boston Bomber” Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on its cover.

  • Walmart leads an increasingly promotional retail pack

    Minneapolis -- Retailer promotion activity continued to grow with a 21.6% increase to more than 11.3 billion pages in the first half of 2013, with Walmart leading in retailer activity, according to Kantar Media’s Marx report. Following on Walmart’s heels were Walgreens, Target and Family Dollar.

  • Shopzilla’s Aisle A extends reach to Europe

    LOS ANGELES — Shopzilla, a leading source of sales and consumer feedback for online merchants and retail advertisers, is expanding its footprint with the launch of its new media solutions and audience targeting division Aisle A in Europe, which will offer marketers access to proprietary shopping intent data and evolving premium retail inventory. 

  • Gap same-store sales beat expectations

    San Francisco – Gap Inc. substantially improved upon its June 2012 same-store sales performance and beat analyst expectation with a 7% increase in same-store sales last month. In comparison, the retailer’s same-store sales were flat in June of last year and were only expected to rise 4.7% in June of this year, according to estimates from Retail Metrics.

    Sales at Gap’s Old Navy helped drive the overall increase. Same-store sales at Old Navy rose 13% in June as a result of seasonal summer promotions.

     

  • RadioShack opens first college store location at U of Texas

    Fort Worth, Texas -- As part of a previously announced plan to expand into non-traditional channels, RadioShack said its first shop-in-shop college store has opened at the University of Texas at Austin.

    Located within the University Co-op bookstore, the RadioShack-branded section features consumer electronics products geared toward college kids. The Top Tech at UT Students' Fingertips RadioShack's retail space consists of a 12-ft. section of wall located on the first floor of the Co-op, and features items such as headphones and Bluetooth speakers.

  • Kenneth Cole leverages Instagram for Kinky Boots promo

    New York -- Fashion designer and retailer Kenneth Cole is partnering with the Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots on the launch of a limited-edition capsule shoe collection arriving in stores for the holiday season.

    To promote the launch, a designated area in front of the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street in Manhattan) will encourage passersby to try and win a pair of Kinky Boots tickets by following @kennethcoleprd and @kinkybootsbway and Instagraming a photo of their "kinky" shoes using #KCKinkyboots.
