  • Safeway contest deems Portland, Ore. 'America's most natural city'

    PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway announced that Portland, Ore. has been named "America's Most Natural City." The city earned the title by garnering the most votes on Facebook.  As a result, Portland will receive a donation of $20,000 and 25 picnic tables constructed from the Guinness World Record holder for the World's Longest Picnic Table. 

  • Wal-Mart to webcast annual meeting for investors

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. will webcast its annual meeting for the investment community on Wed., Oct. 12 from approximately 8:00 a.m. CDT to 3:30 p.m. CDT. 

  • Nordstrom Rack to open in Temecula, Calif.

    Seattle -- Nordstrom announced plans to open a new Nordstrom Rack in Temecula, Calif.

    The 35,700-sq-ft, store is scheduled to open during spring 2012 at Commons at Temecula, a regional shopping center. It will occupy the former Linens 'n Things space.

    Dallas -- Neiman Marcus said Thursday it has launched its first-ever foursquare challenge to take place on Oct. 1 in conjunction with the department store retailer’s Shoe & Handbag Event.

  • Halloween forecast is frighteningly good

    So much for the weak economy. A record number of people, 161 million to be precise, are expected to celebrate Halloween this year, according to the National Retail Federations annual survey.

    NRF has been conducting the consumer intentions and actions survey for 10 years and the outlook for this year is the brightest ever with average spending per person expected to increase to $72.31 from $66.28 last year.

  • Jack Shewmaker posthumously inducted into U of A Hall of Fame

    Former Walmart senior executive and longtime board member Jack Shewmaker is among a group of four business leaders slated for induction into the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held Friday, Feb. 10, 2012.
