  • Pier 1 Q1 same-store sales up 7.2%

    FORT WORTH, Texas -- Pier 1 reported that same-store sales rose 7.2% in the first quarter, helped by strong holiday assortments. First-quarter revenue was up 8% to $361 million, beating Wall Street's estimate of $360.7 million.

    President and CEO Alex Smith said Thursday that the shoppers have been buying the retailer's Easter, spring, Mother's Day and Memorial Day products.

  • Ackman on JCPenney: Wait until August

    NEW YORK — William Ackman, founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management, said that J.C. Penney Co. should start to see “real progress” in early 2013. Ackman made his comments in an interview Tuesday on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” Pershing Square owns about 18% of JCPenney.

  • LIDS Sports Group in retail agreement with University of Florida

    Indianapolis -- LIDS Sports Group has reached an agreement with the University of Florida to operate and manage the official team stores for the Florida Gators. This includes two primary locations within “The Swamp,” as well as other special event concessions for the University’s baseball, basketball, and gymnastics athletic programs, among others.

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target reported a 4.4% increase in May same-store sales that was toward the upper end of a guidance range that called for a low-to-mid single-digit increase.

  • Former Target exec featured speaker at online conference

    Toys“R”Us chairman and CEO Jerry Storch and Nordstrom Direct president Jamie Nordstrom are among the featured speakers at the Shop.org annual summit.

    The annual event organized by Shop.org, a division of the National Retail Federation, will be held September 10 to 12 and the Colorado Convention Center and is billed as the premier gathering for retail e-commerce, digital and multichannel retailers.

  • Dick's to debut running store concept

    Pittsburgh -- Dick’s Sporting Goods said Thursday that it will debut a specialty running store, True Runner, with the first location opening in the retailer’s home city of Pittsburgh.

    The high-service concept will cater to running enthusiasts with footwear, apparel and accessories, and is slated to open in summer 2012.

  • RKF Chicago office adds two new directors

    Chicago -- RKF announced that Steve Schwartz and Lara Keene have joined the firm’s Chicago office as directors.

    Schwartz and Keene, formerly of Baum Realty Group, mark the latest additions to the RKF Chicago office, which opened this past April as part of the firm’s ongoing expansion into key urban markets nationwide.
