    Retailers across the globe are committed to protecting their customers’ personal data — and now they are one step closer to that end.
  • NRF: Holiday sales to increase 3.6% to 4%

    One of the most closely watched holiday forecasts has good news for retailers.   The National Retail Federation said it expects holiday retail sales in November and December to increase between 3.6% and 4% for a total of $678.75 billion to $682 billion. In 2016, up from $655.8 billion last year. The NRF forecast, which excludes automobiles, gasoline and restaurants, would meet or exceed last year’s growth of 3.6% and the five-year average of 3.5%.   
  • Nominations open for most influential women in retail tech

    Who are the leading women working in retail technology? Chain Store Age is accepting nominations for its annual feature recognizing female executives who are helping to transform the retail industry through technology.   The “Top 10 Women in Retail Tech” will celebrate the achievements of retail executives from all areas of technology. The winners will be profiled in a special section of the January 2018 issue of Chain Store Age, as well as in an online report on chainstoreage.com.  
  • SPECS 2018 Update

    Planning is underway for Chain Store Age’s 54th annual SPECS conference, which will be held March 18-20, 2018, at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine (Dallas), Texas. The event will have attendees that are retail and foodservice executives involved in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of stores and restaurants nationwide.

  • Unlikely partners collaborate on exclusive clothing line

    What happens when a fast-fashion giant crosses a leading fast-food company? For two companies, it spurred a new fashion collection.    Forever 21 and Taco Bell are teaming up to launch an apparel line called The Forever 21 x Taco Bell collection. The line features tops, bodysuits and cropped hoodies for women; a sweatshirt, hoodie and anorak jacket for men, and graphic tees, a pullover and hoodie for girls. All merchandise features each brand’s iconic graphics highlighted by a mix of vibrant prints and colors.  
  • Foo Fighters to headline opening of The Wharf in D.C.

    Washington, D.C.’s biggest new development, as well as its first waterfront development in decades, will open in grand fashion on Oct, 12 with an appearance by the Foo Fighters.   
  • Accenture joins Target and P&G as keynote speaker at cybersecurity summit

    Accenture has signed on as the title sponsor for the Retail Cyber Intelligence Summit, which will be held in Chicago, October 3 - 4, 2017. The event is sponsored by the Retail Cyber Intelligence Sharing Center (R-CISC).   
  • Regulatory Wrap-Up: A $15/hour wage increase approved for 2018 ballot in Massachusetts

    Massachusetts: A joint committee held a hearing on a bill that would increase the minimum wage by $1/hr. each year until it reaches $15/hr. in 2021. The bill would also phase out the tip credit over an eight year period. The legislature may feel more pressure to act now that a $15/hr. wage increase has been approved for the 2018 ballot.
