  • Hhgregg opening in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

    Indianapolis -- Hhgregg announced that it will open a 31,000-sq.-ft. store in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on May 5.

    Like all Hhgregg locations, the new Myrtle Beach store will showcase over 100 digital TVs and has more than 500 major appliances in stock every day.

  • Target donates $200K to support tornado relief efforts

    MINNEAPOLIS --Target announced that it has donated $200,000 in cash to the American Red Cross to support tornado relief efforts in the Southern United States. An additional donation of more than $75,000 will include product and relief kits containing hygiene and food items that will be distributed to hardest-hit areas.

  • Golfsmith to enter D.C. area

    Vienna, Va. -- Golfsmith announced it will open its first metro Washington, D.C., location in Tysons Corner, Va., this June. The new location is part of an aggressive growth strategy for the company.

    Golfsmith’s stores offer an interactive experience, and customers are encouraged to test out clubs and gear inside the store before purchasing. They can also use one of the four custom-fitting studios to test drive new clubs. The company also offers free custom club fitting services.

  • Levin Management names exec

    North Plainfield, N.J. -- Levin Management Corp. announced it has promoted Harold Harris from VP to senior VP, effective immediately.

    Harris joined Levin as controller in 1985 and was named CFO in 1990. Responsible for all aspects of finance and lease administration for the company’s management portfolio, Harris also oversees real estate tax and financing reviews, human resources, and risk management.
     

  • Target in Canadian court over trademark dispute

    New York City -- Target Corp. was due in court in Canada on Monday in an attempt to win exclusive right to use its name in Canada, the Wall Street Journal reported.

    Target is asking the court to impose a preliminary injunction against Canadian retailer Isaac Benitah and his company, Fairweather, which owns 15 stores across Canada called Target Apparel and has a logo similar to that of Target Corp, the report said.

  • New leadership emerges at NACDS

    SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores announced a successor for Larry Merlo as its new board of directors chairman, along with several other elected officers, at its 2011 Annual Meeting. Robert Loeffler, who serves as H-E-B's chief administrative officer, will replace Merlo, who is CVS Caremark president and CEO, as NACDS board chairman. Additionally, Walgreens president and CEO Greg Wasson was elected vice chairman, while Thrifty White president and CEO Robert Narveson was named treasurer.

  • Supervalu to offer Coinstar's no-fee option in more stores

    BELLEVUE, Wash. — Supervalu customers that cash in their coins at in-store Coinstar kiosks can do so for free when they select the Supervalu gift card option, Coinstar announced.

    The no-fee option will be available in about 1,000 stores that operate under the Supervalu banner, including such chains as Acme, Albertsons, Jewel-Osco and more, by next month.

    Supervalu and Coinstar began their collaboration on the gift card project last January in approximately 78 Albertsons stores located in Washington and Oregon.

  • J.C. Penney completes new $1.25 billion credit facility

    Plano, Texas -- J. C. Penney Corp. has completed a new five-year $1.25 billion bank credit facility.

    The new facility replaces a $750 million credit facility that was scheduled to mature in April 2012 and provides further strength to the company's liquidity position. The facility may be used for general corporate purposes and will mature in April 2016.
