  • Wal-Mart sex discrimination case hits possible court block by Supreme Court

    Washington, D.C. -- The nation’s court is set to hear arguments on Tuesday in a decade-old legal fight that could cost Wal-Mart Stores billions of dollars if the 500,000 women claiming sex bias are allowed to band together in a class action.

    Wal-Mart is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to end the massive sex discrimination lawsuit in which the women are claiming that the retailer favors men over women in pay and promotions.
     

  • Delhaize U.S. stores earn Energy Star award

    SALISBURY, N.C. -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded Food Lion Family, Bloom and Bottom Dollar Food with its 10th consecutive Energy Star award. The company was one of 46 organizations recognized in the sustained excellence category and among 111 overall 2011 ENERGY STAR award winners chosen from more than 20,000 partners in the ENERGY STAR program.

  • Macy's, renowned makeup artist partner to support Dress For Success

    NEW YORK -- Macy's and makeup artist Bobbi Brown have teamed up to support Dress For Success, the international nonprofit that promotes economic independence for disadvantaged women by providing a network of support to help women thrive in work and in life.

    Macy's customers can now purchase an exclusinve set of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics;100% of the purchase price of the set will benefit Dress For Success Worldwide. The set retails for $60 (valued at $121) and will be available while supplies last.

  • PepsiCo names EVP government affairs

    PURCHASE, N.Y. -- PepsiCo has announced the appointment of Maura Abeln Smith to the position of EVP government affairs, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective May 5.  Smith will succeed Larry Thompson, who is retiring from the company to assume a teaching position at the University of Georgia Law School.

    Smith, who will report to PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi, will be responsible for the company's worldwide legal function and government affairs organization.

  • Sears and Kmart stores to go dark for Earth Hour

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears and Kmart stores nationwide will participate in the global Earth Hour initiative by turning off or dimming all non-essential lighting March 26 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., including every other television and most computer monitors. The company anticipates saving 80,000 kilowatt hours as a result.

  • Toys"R"Us provides additional donation to Save the Children

    WAYNE, N.J. – The Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund has made an additional donation of $500,000 to Save the Children, bringing the Fund’s total contribution to $1 million to support the organization’s relief efforts for children and families impacted by the crisis in Japan.

    Target made an original donation of $500,000 to Save the Children earlier this month.
