  • Pet Supplies Plus heads west

Specialty pet retailer Pet Supplies Plus is entering three new states as part of an aggressive 2016 expansion plan.   The chain is entering California, Colorado and Oklahoma, as well as furthering its expansion in the states of New Jersey, Texas, Missouri, Iowa and Georgia. In addition, Pet Supplies Plus recently signed a deal to open 10 new stores in Kansas City, and is on target to open approximately 60 new stores by the end of the year.
  • Starbucks employees look forward to fall

The end of summer is often a sad time, but workers at U.S. Starbucks stores have more to look forward to with the coming of autumn than football and the changing of leaf colors.   Effective Oct. 3, 2016, the coffee retailer is giving all employees and managers in U.S. company-operated stores an increase in base pay of 5% or greater. The range of increase will be determined by geographic and market factors.
  • Tech Bytes: Walmart Pay is Rolled Out – Now What?

Customers at all of Walmart’s 4,600-plus U.S. stores can now use the Walmart Pay digital payment service.   This is an impressive feat, especially considering Walmart Pay was only announced in December 2015 and didn’t start undergoing official rollout until May 2016. While everyone agrees Walmart Pay reaching full implementation is a big deal, there is less agreement on how this will affect the digital payment landscape.

  • Wendy’s reveals source behind breach — and it was a familiar one

The Wendy's Co. is offering an update on a cyberattack it first reported in February 2016, and it contains some decidedly unsurprising details.   Wendy’s believes the breach resulted from third-party service providers' remote access credentials being compromised. This allowed access, and the ability to deploy malware, to some franchisees' point-of-sale systems. To date, Wendy’s said there has been no indication that any Company-operated restaurants were impacted.
  • Worldpay partially admits to Etsy outage

Payment processing platform Worldpay isn’t naming names, but appears to be owning up to playing a major role in the Etsy transactional outage.   Since July 1, what Etsy has described as a third-party payments processing issue has stalled thousands or even millions of online transactions. In a running thread on the online marketplace’s “Bugs” community forum, some users have been posting that their delayed orders have gone through, but others still complain of inability to process payments.
  • Kids rule at Target

Target Corp. is tapping into its consumer base, including kids, to stay on an upward trajectory.
  • Payment issues hit some Etsy sellers

The July Fourth long weekend was not a happy one for many users of the Etsy online marketplace, which has been hit by lingering transactional problems.   Since July 1, what Etsy has described as a third-party payments processing issue has left thousands of purchases in limbo. A thread in the “Bugs” section of the Etsy online community forum has registered more than 4,000 complaints from buyers and sellers who cannot complete transactions. Etsy users have also been venting their frustrations on Twitter and Reddit.
