Amazon teams with Uber Eats for new Prime perk
Amazon Prime members now have access to a major restaurant delivery platform.
Amazon is launching a new benefit for U.S. members of its Prime paid subscription program in partnership with Uber Eats, the on-demand delivery service of Uber Technologies. U.S. Prime members can receive a $0 delivery fee on restaurant orders of $25 or more placed through Amazon, with Uber Eats supplying the delivery.
Prime members can place orders accessible through Amazon.com and in the Amazon Shopping app, with no new app, Uber account, or credentials required. The benefit is available to all U.S. Prime members, including members of Amazon's half-price memberships Prime for Young Adults and Prime Access.
“Whether it's game night, family night, or date night, Prime’s new Uber Eats membership benefit makes getting dinner delivered even easier,” said Jamil Ghani, worldwide VP of Amazon Prime. “This is what Prime is all about: unlimited free, fast delivery on a wide selection of products, big savings, fantastic entertainment, and now even more value on restaurant delivery with Uber Eats, all in a single membership.”
Prime delivery via Uber Eats is available from national chains like Wingstop, Chipotle and Sweetgreen; regional operators like Aga’s Restaurant in Houston and Papalote Mexican Grill in San Francisco; and a variety of local small business restaurants. Prime members will receive $20 off the first two Uber Eats orders of $25 or more eligible for the first 14 days. Plus, Prime Visa cardmembers earn 5% back on all Uber Eats orders through Dec. 5.
All U.S. consumers have been able to use their Amazon Echo devices to track the status of Uber Eats orders since 2023. In March, Amazon began enabling users of the Alexa+ voice assistant who link their account with Uber Eats through the Alexa app to see a new conversational window, with their past orders automatically synced so they can search for restaurants by name or cuisine, reorder a previous meal, or start a totally new ordering process using voice commands.
“Together with Amazon, we built an experience for Prime members designed to make restaurant delivery feel as natural, convenient, and affordable as ordering anything else on Uber Eats,” said Andrew Macdonald, president and COO, Uber. “We're excited to connect our restaurant community with new Prime fans, while giving Prime members a seamless way to enjoy great food from restaurants through Uber Eats.”
How it works
- Prime members can visit the dedicated Uber Eats page on the Amazon site or open the Amazon Shopping app and search “Uber Eats” to get started.
- They then log in with existing Amazon credentials, browse from nearby restaurants, and then place an order with existing Amazon payment methods.
- Once an order is placed, Amazon will send email and push notifications with delivery status updates, and Uber Eats will follow up with a final order confirmation.
Other Prime perks Amazon has recently launched include double savings on one fuel purchase made each Friday during a special promotion at more than 7,500 BP and Amoco gas stations and participating AmPm and Thorntons convenience stores (Prime members already receive a $0.10 discount per gallon at those locations).
