Now, consumers can gain access to Alexa using a browser, with all previous chats, preferences, and personalization seamlessly carrying over. Functionality includes end-to-end meal planning. Customers can ask Alexa for a full week’s menu and have a week of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, with their personal preferences taken into account, generated.
Customers can then can ask Alexa to add every recommended item they need to their Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods Market cart, ready to order. In addition, users can drop a recipe link into Alexa and ask it to customize the recipe to their specific dietary restrictions and add it to your recipe library.
Shoppers can then convert the full recipe into ingredients and have them added to their shopping list. Users can also pull up the recipe on their Amazon Echo Show voice assistant to be guided through each step and set timers.
A navigation sidebar keeps the most-used Alexa features available with one click, eliminating the need to open a different window or switch to another app. Users also have access to recent chats to pick up where they left off, and can check shopping lists.
Amazon also plans to release a redesigned Alexa mobile app, which will feature an AI agent-forward design. To see a full list of Alexa+ for browser capabilities click here.
How Alexa+ can help shoppers
With support for APIs and agentic AI, the new Alexa+ architecture can let customers seamlessly connect with a wide variety of retailers and services including Amazon, Whole Foods Market, Panera, Uber, GrubHub, Ticketmaster, Yelp, and smart home devices.
Amazon is also in the process integrating Alexa and other AI-based capabilities into vehicles from automakers including BMW and Hyundai; and intends to enable advanced in-vehicle experiences that leverage Qualcomm Technologies’ automotive technology and its own AI services and cloud capabilities.
In addition, Amazon enabled the LLMs supporting Alexa+ to string together multiple calls in a row as well as integrate with APIs. This enables the device to handle multifaceted requests, such as booking a reservation at a specific restaurant and then sending a text message to notify a requested contact of the reservation.
