Following tradition, Amazon is spotlighting a song from an iconic music group in its new holiday promotion.

Amazon is rolling out its official holiday promotion, “Joy Delivered,” on TV and social media. In an email to Chain Store Age, an Amazon spokesperson said the campaign is built around the “pull of getting home for the holidays and the kindness along the way.”

Scored with an original rendition of the 1969 Beatles song “Golden Slumbers,” with the opening line “Once there was a way to get back homeward,” the campaign features 150-second video of a young woman named Joy, played by New Zealand actress Kate Laidler.

When severe weather cancels her flight home on Christmas Eve, she looks at the bag of gifts she packed for her family and decides nothing is going to stop her from getting home.

She starts on a trip home, making it back with help from strangers she meets along the way. On each leg of the journey, she repays their kindness by gifting them an Amazon box from her bag, each one meant for a family member back home. Although she’s empty-handed by the time she reunites with her mother, she was the only gift her family needed – hence the theme “Joy Delivered.”

This ad does not mark the first time Amazon has used a classic 1960s-era Beatles song to help promote its holiday offerings. In 2023, the e-tailer’s official holiday ad “Joy Ride” prominently featured the Beatles hit "In My Life."
