Wingstop is using AI to help customers place phone orders.

A fast-casual restaurant chain with more than 1,500 locations worldwide is testing an artificial intelligence (AI) solution to streamline voice ordering.

Through a recently launched pilot, Wingstop is utilizing ConverseNow voice-AI powered virtual assistants to handle phone orders in select restaurant locations. Leveraging virtual ordering assistants, Wingstop intends to replicate natural human dialogue to provide a naturally conversational, personalized phone ordering experience.

The retailer processes phone orders taken by ConverseNow virtual assistants in the same as online orders, allowing associates to fulfill AI orders without any additional training. The virtual assistants also provide customers with automated, dynamic and personalized upselling offers, using machine learning capabilities and programmed deep knowledge of Wingstop’s menu items.

By automating phone orders with voice-based AI, Wingstop seeks to to effectively remove missed calls and hold times for customers, enabling easy ordering even during peak hours. The retailer also hopes this technology will free up time for store associates to better serve in-person customers.

Wingstop is able to process phone orders via virtual assistant in both English and Spanish. Customers who prefer to speak with a live person will have the option to do so. Recently, Wingstop was named as a top 25 U.S. franchise in Entrepreneur’s 44th Franchise 500 ranking.

“We’re excited to partner and grow together with Wingstop. It’s been a pleasure seeing how our AI has been embraced by their guests and staff while driving results in sales and average tickets,” said Vinay Shukla, co-founder and CEO of ConverseNow. “Wingstop has built an incredible business with nearly 30 years of history. We’re privileged to help them continue their ascent and solidify their leadership in the next generation of restaurants.”
