Walmart lowers back-to-school prices from 2024; launches tween apparel brand
Walmart Inc. is targeting back-to-school shoppers with discounts, a new private-label apparel brand and streamlined online shopping for back-to-school items.
The discount giant is featuring its 14 most popular back-to-school supplies at prices lower than 2024. Combined with a $4.98 Wonder Nation backpack, families can secure essential back-to-school supplies for a total of just $16, according to Walmart. The company's offerings include 100-plus supplies priced under $1; 1,000-plus supplies under $5; and 2,000-plus supplies under $10.
New Tween Brand
In other back-to-school moves, Walmart is debuting a new private tween fashion brand, called Weekend Academy, with most items available for under $15, and many priced at less than $10. The assortment includes top, bottoms and shoes. The retailer says tweens can go back to school in a head-to-toe Weekend Academy outfit for $42.
"We understand how important it is for families and teachers to save time and money when preparing for the school year," said Denise Incandela, executive VP, fashion, Walmart U.S. "As the go-to destination for back-to-school shopping, we’re proud to offer another year of incredible value — including school supplies, must-have styles and essentials. We’re especially excited to introduce Weekend Academy, our new private fashion brand designed for tweens, featuring trendy, affordable looks that are dropping just in time to be first-day ready."
