Walmart launches joint paid membership program with Sam’s Club
Consumers who shop both Walmart and Sam’s Club have a new discounted option to join both retailers’ paid loyalty offerings.
Walmart is now making memberships in the Walmart+ and Sam’s Club Plus programs available together for $120 a year — almost $100 less than members pay to buy individual memberships at the two retailers. (Both stores will continue to offer standalone memberships.) Walmart and Sam’s Club U.S. employees will get both memberships as part of their benefits.
“We’re giving people a reason to expect more from their memberships,” said John Furner, president and CEO, Walmart Inc. “For $120 a year, we’re raising expectations for what a membership can deliver: more money in their pockets and more time to call their own.”
The perks of the new joint membership include:
•Sam’s Club access with member-only prices;
•Free delivery from Walmart and Sam’s Club;
•A choice of a Peacock or Paramount+ streaming subscription;
•Gas savings of 10 cents a gallon at more than 17,000 participating stations; and
•2% Sam’s Cash rewards cashback on eligible purchases.
Existing Walmart+ annual members can switch to the combined program for just $22 more a year, and current Sam’s Club Plus members can activate Walmart+ at no additional cost.
Sam’s Club warehouse club members can upgrade to Sam’s Club Plus for $60 more a year and get Walmart+ included. Customers already paying for both membership programs can link their accounts, with most joint members eligible for a prorated Walmart+ refund.
Walmart has bulked up Walmart+, initially launched in September 2020, with numerous additional benefits over the years. As part of the annual $98 fee, Walmart+ offers other perks including auto care perks and 5% unlimited cashback through the OnePay CashRewards Credit Card.
