Walmart to compete with Amazon’s fall holiday sales event
Once again, Walmart is hosting its first major holiday promotion only a couple of weeks after the official end of summer.
The discount giant is hosting what it calls a “seasonal savings event” from 12 a.m. ET Monday, Oct. 5 to Sunday, Oct. 11. Known as “Fall Deals,” the promotion features a dedicated online hub that will offer discounts, including limited-time savings opportunities, in categories including home, electronics, apparel, beauty, toys, and everyday essentials.throughout the event.
Customers can also shop Fall Deals in-store and on the Walmart app. According to Walmart, each channel offers a “different pace and routine.” Shoppers can choose pickup, delivery, shipping, or in-store shopping based on their needs. No membership in the Walmart+ paid subscription plan is required to participate in Fall Deals.
Walmart began offering some early holiday shopping features in October 2022, the same year Amazon launched the fall version of its Prime Day summer extravaganza, now known as Prime Big Deal Days. In October 2023, the discount giant officially launched what was previously known as the Walmart Deals extravaganza, which returned in 2024 and then again in 2025.
During its 2024 early holiday promotion, analysis from Spreetail found that Walmart’s gross merchandise value (GMV) increased by 22% from the previous week, with 15% boost in quantity sold and 10% traffic growth compared to the prior week., indicating a “halo effect” from that year’s overlapping Prime Big Deal Days event.

Amazon, Target to host dueling fall holiday sales events
Fall Deals will take place during the same timeframe as two shorter early holiday promotions from Amazon and Target which will both take place Oct. 6-7. Amazon will once again host Prime Big Deal Days, while Target will run a fall edition of its “Target Circle Deal Days” event.
Prime Big Deal Days will only be open to Amazon Prime members and features exclusive deals across the retailer’s product assortment. Customers who are not Prime members can participate via free 30-day trial membership and some early discounts are currently available.
For the fourth consecutive year, Target is running a fall early holiday promotion that is competitively timed with Prime Big Deal Days. Previously a weeklong event called Target Circle Week, Target Circle Deal Days will offer members of the free Target Circle loyalty program up to 40% off thousands of items across categories including apparel, home decor, kitchen gadgets, beauty, toys, and tech.
