Stitch Fix pilots generative AI style visualization
An online personal styling service is leveraging leading-edge artificial intelligence technology to provide shoppers personalized imagery of outfits on their likenesses.
Stitch Fix is launching the beta release of Stitch Fix Vision, a style visualization tool based on generative AI. With Vision, customers receive personalized images of themselves styled in recommended looks and trends.
Leveraging Stitch Fix’s proprietary algorithms and customer data, combined with the expertise of human stylists, Vision curates complete outfits tailored to each customer’s unique preferences.
In addition to customers seeing their likeness in a variety of styles, they will see themselves in a range of locations, such as a city street or on a beach, to help them visualize how different outfits will look in different environments.
Vision images are shoppable, enabling customers to purchase an item directly or request that it be put in their next monthly shipment of five personalized items (known as a “fix”). Customers can save Vision images as well as share them on social media.
To utilize Vision, customers upload a selfie and full-length photo through the Stitch Fix app. From there, they will receive their first set of images, after which they will be sent a fresh drop on a weekly basis. Images will be available in the client’s personal Vision gallery.
Other personalization tools Stitch Fix has offered include “Style Tune Ups,” a feature offering personalized outfit recommendations based on the trends from Stitch Fix's 2024 Style Forecast, along with curated "outfit of the day" Spotify playlists.
During the 2023 holiday season, Stitch Fix provided the Holiday Party Hotline, which let customers call or text the hotline to have styling queries answered and receive personalized tips directly from a Stitch Fix stylist.

In addition, Stitch Fix has rolled out Stylist Connect, a two-way communication platform that lets customers chat directly with stylists, and family accounts that make personal styling services accessible to an entire household.
The retailer is currently introducing a series of new themed fixes for the holiday season, including Après-Ski, Holiday Party and Vacation Staples. The company is also offering new brands ranging from Favorite Daughter and Alex Mill for women to Pendleton and Madewell for men, as well as introducing accessories from Kate Spade and footwear from Frye, among other brands.
"When Stitch Fix launched nearly 15 years ago, we disrupted the retail market, and today we are rewriting the retail playbook once again with our latest suite of innovations, including Stitch Fix Vision," said Matt Baer, CEO, Stitch Fix. "We have billions of data points on our customers’ fit and style preferences, and we are using these insights, as well as the latest in generative AI technology, our assortment of leading brands and the expertise of our stylists, to deliver ultra-personalization at scale and bring to life new ways for customers to discover the styles they will love."
Founded in 2011, Stitch Fix serves around 3.5 million clients and ships thousands of personalized items of apparel every day. The company went public in 2017.
