Schnuck Markets optimizes, automates fresh food operations
Schnuck Markets Inc. is enhancing the efficiency and precision of fresh food operations across its entire store network.
Schnucks is deploying Logile fresh item management solutions to modernize its fresh food operations. The regional Midwest grocer seeks to optimize forecasting, standardize recipe management and automate compliance tracking leveraging Logile technology.
"Logile’s solutions have truly transformed our fresh food operations, providing us with greater control over production planning," said Kim Anderson, VP of store operations support at Schnucks. "Digitizing these key processes and seamlessly integrating them into our daily operations has made a profound difference. We can now make smarter, more informed decisions, offering our customers fresh food at its peak flavor and freshness, while reducing waste and ensuring consistent availability of high-quality products."
Schnucks is building on a partnership with Logile that kicked off in 2022 when it rolled out the "Schnucks Flexforce" employment option. Based on Logile technology, Flexforce lets employees can optimize their work schedules by selecting shifts and store locations that best fit their personal schedules.

Leveraging Logile’s advanced artificial intelligence- and machine learning-based forecasting models, Schnucks predicts fresh food demand by analyzing historical data, seasonality, weather, events and market trends with intelligent models continuously learn and adapt.
As a result, Schnucks hopes to optimize inventory management, minimize stockouts and reduce excess inventory while providing real-time insights for more efficient decision-making and supply chain management.
The retailer is also gaining role-based visibility into sales and production forecasts, utilizing item movement data and on-hand inventory to determine more optimal production levels, timings and quantities, helping ensure accurate production scheduling, reduced overproduction, and minimized shrinkage.
"These production planning and fresh item management solutions integrate seamlessly with Logile’s Connected Workforce Platform, aligning fresh food operations with store execution management to deliver a fully optimized in-store experience," said Tom Henry, chief data and information officer at Schnucks. "With these advanced capabilities, Schnucks has improved demand visibility, enhanced forecasting accuracy and ensured our customers receive fresh food at its peak flavor, while minimizing waste and markdowns. By automating core processes, we are ensuring consistency across locations and enabling more efficient store execution."
In addition, Schnucks is digitizing recipes and integrating them with the USDA Food Data Central platform for more precise nutritional labeling. It stores all recipe components, including ingredients, sub-recipes and preparation steps, helping ensure compliance with FDA regulations and provide real-time updates for allergens and nutritional content.
Other capabilities the grocer is obtaining include automating grind tracking to capture supplier details, lot numbers and production dates via barcode scanning; as well as tracking the breakdown of raw items into sellable cuts, accounting for trimming loss and bone removal.
"Fresh food operations require a level of precision that traditional methods simply can't achieve," said Purna Mishra, founder and CEO of Logile. "Retailers today are seeking technology that not only simplifies execution but also provides actionable, data-driven insights for smarter decision making. Schnucks' success highlights the broader industry shift toward automation and intelligent fresh food management."
