  • Survey: 80% of consumers actively looking for rebates

    Lewisville, Texas -- Ninety-five percent of consumers are interested in products that come with rebates and 80% of consumers actively seek out rebate, according to an annual consumer survey by Parago, the largest rebate provider in the United States.

    The survey found that consumer preference for rebates versus instant discounts is growing. And while economic recovery may be on its way by the numbers, consumer sentiments around spending are still timid.

  • Macy’s and Aeropostale among national merchants to accept Isis Mobile Wallet

    Austin, Texas -- Isis, the mobile commerce joint venture created by AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless,  announced that Aeropostale, Champs Sports, Dillard’s, Foot Locker, Jamba Juice and Macy’s are among the first national merchants to join with Isis in advancing mobile commerce. The company also announced the first of its local merchant partners across Austin, Texas and Salt Lake City.

  • J.C. Penney to roll out several new brands; open 20,000-sq.-ft. in-store home shop

    New York -- J.C. Penney executives laid out further details of their strategy going forward during the chain’s quarterly conference call with investors. The call followed the release of J.C. Penney’s first quarter results, when it reported a worse-then-expected loss of $163 million, and a 19% drop in same-store sales.

    J.C. Penney said it would launch a new private label apparel brand, jcp, for both men and women. The brand is set to debut in August.

  • Jacksons Food Stores selects Acumera to build and manage secure network

    Austin, Texas -- Acumera announced today that Meridian, Idaho-based Jacksons Food Stores, Inc. has selected Acumera to build, monitor and manage a secure network, interconnecting the convenience store chain’s more than 200 retail locations with more than 1,900 store systems.

    Using the Acumera Merchant Gateway, AcuVigil Dashboard and Machine-to-Cloud Integration Engine, Jacksons will experience enhanced information security, connectivity and visibility across the company’s enterprise.

  • ARG: Memorial Day sales to be biggest ever; retailers who open early to win big

    Charleston, S.C. -- The number of Americans delaying their shopping to Memorial Day Weekend is at an all-time high, according to findings in two reports by America's Research Group Surveys. The reports find that shoppers will approach Memorial Day in keeping with a growing trend: holding off on shopping until "big" holiday weekends.

  • Walmart throws weight into home improvement with digital campaign

    New York -- The world’s largest retailer is taking steps to display its home-improvement prowess through a digital marketing campaign centered on a “Projects Made Simple” area at Walmart.com.

    The area is organized by home improvement project. For instance: how to stain a deck, install a water filter system, caulk a window or install a towel bar. In the deck video, an unidentified handy man narrator explains, “All the tools are available at Walmart to get you going.”

  • Selfridges named Best Department Store in the World

    London -- The British department store Selfridges received the “Best Department Store in the World” award at the Global Department Store Summit in Paris.

    Selfridges took the top slot amongst finalists from around the globe, including Macy's and Woolworths (South Africa). The U.K. retailer also won the award, which is given out every two years, in 2010.

  • It’s official: Liz Claiborne is now Fifth & Pacific

    New York -- Liz Claiborne Inc. said Tuesday that it has officially changed its name to Fifth & Pacific Cos., following an initial announcement in January that it would do so.

    The company sold the Liz Claiborne and Monet brands to J.C. Penney Co. in November, freeing it up to concentrate more fully on its Juicy Couture, Lucky Brand and Kate Spade labels.
