Nordstrom Rack expansion includes return to San Francisco
Nordstrom Rack has added more stores to its fall 2027 store opening lineup.
The openings include the off-price retailer’s return to downtown San Francisco with a location on Stockton Street, near Union Square. The 51,500-sq.-ft. store will be located in a building owned and managed by Invesco Real Estate.
San Francisco has been without a traditional Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack location since 2023, when the company closed its flagship in Westfield San Francisco Centre, as well as its Rack store on Market Street. (In November, it opened a Nordstrom Local location in the city’s Pacific Heights neighborhood.)
"Nordstrom has a long history in San Francisco, and we’re excited to bring Nordstrom Rack back downtown said Erik Nordstrom, co-CEO of Nordstrom. “The city has many wonderful assets, and it has clearly built momentum in making downtown a great place for customers.”
Earlier this month, Uniqlo opened a two-floor, 20,315-sq.-ft. flagship on Market Street, on the site of a former Old Navy store. The opening came some five years after the retailer shuttered its downtown San Francisco store amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
TheRealReal and AT&T have also returned to downtown San Francisco, and Japanese video game giant Nintendo a two-level store in Union Square last year.
"Three years ago, companies were leaving San Francisco,” said San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie. “Today, they want to be here, and Nordstrom Rack’s decision to return to the heart of our city is another sign of the growing confidence in San Francisco. We're making our streets safer and cleaner, bringing people back downtown, cutting red tape, and creating the conditions for businesses to succeed.”

In addition to San Francisco, Nordstrom Rack recently announced the locations of two other fall 2027 openings, including a 25,000-sq.-ft. store at Dunham Pointe, in Cypress, Texas. The center is owned and managed by Trademark Property Company.
In addition, the company will open a 30,000-sq.-ft. store at Westpark Shopping Center in Glen Allen, Va. The center is owned and managed by InvenTrust Properties.

Nordstrom operates more than 400 Nordstrom, Nordstrom Local and Nordstrom Rack locations.
