  • Tuesday Morning expects Q1 loss following comps drop

    DALLAS — Continued softness in the home and housewares category is evident at Tuesday Morning, which said it expects the loss per share for the first quarter to be in the range of 12 cents to 13 cents.

    Tuesday Morning reported that sales for its first quarter ended Sept. 30 were down 1.2% to $170.7 million from $172.8 million last year. The company said comparable-stores were down 4.1% comprised of a 5.2% decrease in traffic offset by a 1.1% increase in average ticket.

  • Motorola Solutions unveils tablet built for enterprise users; first solutions focused on retail

    Schaumberg, Ill. -- Motorola Solutions on Monday announced the first tablet computer built from the ground up specifically for enterprise users, the Android-based ET1. With the first solutions focused on retail, the new tablet will be available in fourth quarter 2011.

    Similar in appearance to a consumer tablet, the new ET1 is designed to leverage the sleek design and user experience of a tablet with the applications, durability, security, device management and lifecycle-support needs that are specific to the retail environment.

  • Toy price parity early season gift for shoppers

    It is still very early in the holiday season and anything could happen from a pricing perspective. However, with that as a caveat, it appears Target and Walmart are in a virtual dead heat when it comes to toy pricing, according to a survey by Citigroup’s senior retail analyst Deb Weinswig.

  • Subway to install MasterCard’s PayPass contactless payment system

    Purchase, N.Y. -- MasterCard Worldwide announced that Subway, the nation’s largest sandwich chain, will accept MasterCard’s PayPass contactless payments at more than 7,000 U.S. locations by the end of first quarter 2012. 

    Consumers will now have the option of paying for their meal by simply tapping a MasterCard PayPass-enabled card or device at the register. PayPass does not require customers to sign receipts for purchases under $50.

  • Latest study predicts careful spending for the holidays

    NEW YORK — An overwhelming majority (72%) of U.S. consumers expect their holiday spending to be “careful” or “controlled” in 2011, according to Accenture’s annual consumer holiday shopping study. Discounts, sales and prices are still top of mind this holiday, with 40% of consumers saying an item being on sale is the single most important factor in their decision to purchase.

  • Former P&G executive named CEO at Catalina

    Jamie Egasti was named CEO of Catalina Marketing Corp. and will join the firm’s board of directors. Egasti previously served as CEO of The Folgers Coffee Company and president of global snacks and coffee at Procter & Gamble. Egasti replaces Catalina co-founder George Off, who has served as interim CEO and a member of the company’s board of directors since May, 2011.

  • Toy catalog to offer more of everything

    Target’s toy catalog is set for release on Nov. 1 and will feature an expanded assortment displayed across eight additional pages with discount coupons for savings of more than $350.

    To help busy parents stay organized during the holiday season, the toy catalog focuses on list building and includes checkboxes next to every item, and a special tear-out list for kids to complete. According to the company, it is offering nearly 7,000 toys online and in stores and will offer discounts on 2,000 of those items throughout the season.
