  • New VPs named at The Container Store

    DALLAS — The Container Store has named three new VPs.

    Brooke Minteer has been promoted to VP buying logistics and operations. In her new role as VP, Minteer will continue to develop strategies and processes to help streamline tasks and procedures in the buying department. Additionally, Minteer will help lead the online merchandising team for the company's web site .

  • Fred Meyer selects TD Retail Card Services for private label credit card

    MAHWAH, N.J. — The Fred Meyer Jewelers division of Kroger Co. has selected TD Retail Card Services to take over the private label credit card program for its Fred Meyer Jewelers and Littman Jewelers stores.

    Under the agreement, the  business unit of TD will direct all facets of the program for the company's 344 fine jewelry stores in 32 states. 
     

  • Barnes & Noble reports breach of customer credit data at stores

    New York -- Barnes & Noble said it has detected tampering with PIN pad devices that are used in 63 of its stores. Upon detecting evidence of tampering, which was limited to one compromised PIN pad in each of the affected stores, chain discontinued use of all PIN pads in its nearly 700 stores nationwide by the close of business on Sept.14.
     
    In addition, the company notified federal law enforcement authorities, and has been supporting a federal government investigation into the matter.

    NEW YORK — Consumers are planning ahead for the holidays, with 51% saying they have set aside the cash needed to complete their shopping lists, according to Accenture's annual consumer holiday shopping study.
     

  • Signet Jewlers Ltd. to acquire Ultra Stores

    New York -- Signet Jewelers Ltd. announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Ultra Stores, Inc. from Crystal Financial LLC. and its other stockholders for approximately $57 million in cash. Ultra operates stores primarily in outlet centers, as well as licensed jewelry departments.
       
    Signet will not assume any debt in connection with the acquisition.
     

  • Tractor Supply delivers EPS growth in Q3

    BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — Tractor Supply Company reported that net sales for the third quarter increased 9% to $1.07 billion from $977.8 million in the prior year's third quarter. Same-store sales increased 2.9% compared with a very strong 11.5% increase in the prior-year period.  The same-store sales increase was driven primarily by continued strong results in key consumable, usable and edible products, principally animal- and pet-related merchandise.
