  • Men’s Wearhouse engages AlixPartners to support Jos. A. Bank merger

    Houston -- The Men's Wearhouse, Inc. has engaged the advisory firm, AlixPartners, to support its integration of Jos. A. Bank Clothiers, Inc. Jos. A. Bank's store banner will remain in place and management will consist of executives from both companies.

  • The Taste of Vanilla

    At the recent Oracle Industry Connect Conference held in Boston, a number of speakers from prominent retailers including Kohl’s, Hot Topic, and C. Wonder extolled the virtues of “vanilla” implementations of enterprise systems. In this context, vanilla means implementing an enterprise platform with all or many of that vendor’s applications, minimizing customization or use of one-off “best of breed” solutions.

  • Egg producer names Webb to new ops role

    The nation’s largest egg producer, Cal-Maine Foods, named Wil Webb to a new role as vp of operations.

    Webb will be responsible for the company’s extensive production facilities in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi and reports to Cal-Maine COO Sherman Miller. Webb has been employed with Cal-Maine Foods since 1997 and most recently served as general manager of the company’s operations in Edwards, Mississippi.

  • Consumer spending rises in February

    Washington, D.C. -- Consumers opened up their pocketbooks a bit in February, according to figures released Friday by the U.S. Commerce Department. Consumer spending increased 0.3% last month after a downwardly revised gain of 0.2% in January. The February increase was the biggest since November.

    Personal income was up 0.3%, matching January's gain. It was the second straight monthly increase.

     

  • RH stays hot in the fourth quarter

    Restoration Hardware Holdings chairman and CEO Gary Friedman lauded the company’s performance in the fourth quarter and fiscal 2013, saying that RH continued to outperform the home furnishings industry by a wide margin.

  • McDonald’s launches omni-channel coffee promotion

    Oak Brook, Ill. – McDonald’s is offering free McCafe coffee is available during breakfast hours starting March 31 through April 13 in participating restaurants. To kick off the two-week campaign, McDonald's will host "Make Friends with McCafe" sampling events at high traffic locations and transportation hubs in multiple cities across the country.

  • PetSmart opens distribution center in Berks County, Pa.

    PetSmart CEO David Lenhardt was joined by Lt. Governor Jim Cawley of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Congressman Charlie Dent (PA-15) at the grand opening of PetSmart’s new distribution center (DC) in Berks County, Pa.

    This DC will bring an estimated 500 jobs to Berks County by the end of 2016. The 870,000-sq.-ft. facility will serve 25% of PetSmart’s stores in 11 states, handling and delivering consumables, hard goods and fish to 170 PetSmart stores in 2014 and more than 260 stores by 2015.

  • Restoration Hardware swings to Q4 profit; plans seven new stores

    Cortre Madera, Calif. – Restoration Hardware Holdings Inc. (RH) swung to a profit in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2013 amid ongoing sales growth. The retailer posted net earnings of $26.64 million, compared to a net loss of $28.36 in the year-ago period.

    Net revenues grew 18.5% to $471.69 million, from $398.05 million. Same-store sales grew 17%.
