  • Sports Authority gears up for holiday season

    Sports Authority plans to hire 3,500 temporary employees across the country to meet consumer demand during the 2014 holiday season.

    All Sports Authority locations will begin hiring this month and will continue until December. The specialty retailer added that it plans to convert hundreds of seasonal workers into permanent staff after the holidays.

  • Costco Q4 profit rises 13%, topping forecasts

    Issaquah, Wash. -- Costco Wholesale Corp. on Wednesday reported fiscal fourth-quarter net income of $697 million, exceeding Wall Street forecasts, amid strong back-to-school sales and higher membership fees. The retailer reported net income of $617 million in the year-ago period.

    Total sales for the quarter, ended Aug. 31, rose 9.3% to $35.52 billion, also better than expected.

    Same-store sales rose 7% (excluding fuel).

  • Overstock allows customers to shop directly from their TVs via Delivery Agent

    New York -- Delivery Agent announced a deal with online retailer Overstock that will enable consumers with Smart TV and connected device homes to shop for items on Overstock directly from their television via Delivery Agent's ShopTV t-commerce platform.

    Running now through Oct. 15, the "Overstocktober" campaign will enable viewers to buy products directly from Overstock television commercials.

  • UPS to expand residential package delivery services

    UPS plans to expand UPS My Choice and the UPS Access Point network, two services that, according to the company, work seamlessly together to manage residential package deliveries.
     
    UPS My Choice, the customizable online and mobile service where consumers choose delivery preferences, will now be available to consumers in 15 additional countries throughout North America and Europe. UPS My Choice was first introduced in the US in 2011.
     

  • Square and Epicor lead mobile POS software rankings, according to IHL Group

    Franklin, Tenn. -- Software companies Square and Epicor lead the fast growing Mobile POS software market in North America according to new research from IHL Group, a global retail research and advisory firm.  

    Mobile POS installs are expected to grow by 110% this year as more retailers replace electronic cash registers and POS terminals with mobile devices.

  • Burlington Stores stockholders to offer 8 million shares for sale

    Burlington, N.J. - Affiliates of Bain Capital Partners LLC and certain other stockholders of Burlington Stores Inc. intend to offer eight million shares of the company’s common stock in an underwritten public offering. The offering consists entirely of secondary shares to be sold by the selling stockholders.

    Burlington Stores will not sell any shares in the offering and will not receive any proceeds from the offering. J.P. Morgan is acting as sole book-running manager for the offering.
