  • UPS, 7-Eleven offer seamless commerce assistance

    Online retailers who want to offer physical pickup of their goods have a new option.   Partnering with various retailers including 7-Eleven, UPS is expanding its “smart locker” program from nine locations in Chicago to 300 locations nationwide. UPS is adding 300 new Access Point locations nationwide. The lockers are usually outside and accessible 24 hours a day at convenience stores and other sites.  
  • It's back .... Amazon Prime Day

    Everyone knew Amazon Prime Day was coming, now we know when and how.   Amazon will host its second annual summer sales blitz, known as Prime Day, on July 12. The online giant created the mega-shopping event, aimed at members of its Prime loyalty program, last year. It was held on July 15 and marked the retailer's 20th anniversary. Amazon said the event broke sales records that it previously set during Black Friday 2014.

    “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” has been the theme song of U.S. consumers for the past two years, but they may need to look for a new anthem.  
  • Stiles completes Coral Ridge Center in Fort Lauderdale

    The Enclave Shops at Coral Ridge outside of Fort Lauderdale is complete and its Fresh Market anchor has opened its doors. Its developer, Stiles, partnered with local businessman Phil Smith to build the surrounding residential community, The Enclave at Coral Ridge Country Club.   The Fresh Market has been a draw to other prospective retail tenants at the 27,300-sq.-ft. center, according to Stiles VP of realty Mike Carpenter.    
  • Delray Beach shopping center sells for $33 million

    New Century Commons, a shopping center in Delray Beach, Florida, has been purchased by Menin Development for $33 million, according to a report in the Sun Sentinel.

    Seller of the 84,551-sq.-ft. center was Linton 510 LLC, which faced uncertainty over the future of one of its anchors, Sports Authority, which filed for bankruptcy in March. Questions about cash flow going forward complicated the closing of the sale, though a Menin spokesman told the South Florida newspaper that several retailers have inquired about the Sports Authority space.

  • Walmart challenging Amazon with shipping offer

    The world's largest retailer is throwing a counterpunch to Amazon's Prime service.    Walmart is offering a free 30-day trial of its ShippingPass program, which offers consumers  unlimited, two-day free shipping for a year.  Normally, the service costs $49 per year.   (So as not to feel left out, existing ShippingPass members will receive a free month of the service).  
  • Ex-Home Depot exec named head merchant at Sobey's

    Sobeys Inc. has named a former Home Depot executive as the Canadian retailer's chief merchandising officer. Lyne Castonguay will oversee all aspects of Sobeys go-to-market strategy, with responsibility for category management, marketing, data insights, research, procurement, private label and merchandising as well as the company's digital strategy.
  • Target gets ‘smart’ about lighting

    Target Corp. is taking its lighting to the next level.   The retailer has entered into an agreement with Acuity Brands for Acuity to provide Target with smart lighting technologies, featuring energy saving LED fixtures and dimming controls.    Target will be installing Acuity’s next generation, smart LED sales floor fixtures, along with the lighting company’s store accent lighting and distribution center site lighting.
