The value of a super premium domain name that people instinctively visit during the holidays will be revealed soon as a leading asset disposition firm looks to extract maximum value for Santa.com.
Hilco Streambank has been retained to sell the Santa.com trademarks and domain name first registered in 1994. The intellectual property disposition and valuation firm is advising interested parties to submit offers privately prior and hopes to complete a transaction in the next 45 to 60 days. The domain has a history of use as an online gift and holiday shopping portal and the current owners, Santa Holdings LLC, decided to sell the domain name, according to a statement from Hilco Streambank.
“Santa.com presents a tremendous opportunity to own a piece of Christmas” said Gabe Fried, the CEO of Hilco Streambank. “Santa is probably the most recognized character name in the world. The domain has a broad application for e-commerce and brick and mortar retailers looking to increase sales volume, as well as advertisers looking to promote their products during the holiday season.”
The company did not offer an opening price to serve as an opening offer for potential acquirers, but did said super premium domain names typically sell for seven figures.
