  • Old Navy joins network to reward customers for store visits

    PALO ALTO, Calif. — Old Navy has become the latest retailer to partner with Shopkick, a shopping mobile app that rewards shoppers for walking into stores. Customers who have the shopkick app on their smartphones will be able to receive walk-in rewards at any of Old Navy's nearly 1,000 U.S. locations, Shopkick reported. If you’re like me, the whirlwind of retail chaos that swirls around shopping centers the Friday after Thanksgiving can feel a bit overwhelming. The sales and deep discounts are tempting, but wading through crowds and fighting for parking spaces is not my idea of a “happy” holiday. But I have plenty of friends and family – and I’m sure you do too – who look forward to Black Friday with the anticipatory excitement of kids on Christmas Eve.

  • Walmart enhances shopping experience with new mobile apps

    SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Walmart is looking to offer shoppers ways to access Walmart both in-store and online with the launch of new mobile applications for iPhone and iPad devices.

    Walmart said the free apps are the first of several mobile products to be rolled out from the recently formed @WalmartLabs group under Walmart's global e-commerce unit.

    The updated iPhone app includes such new features as:

    • Voice: Users can add items to shopping list by speaking, typing or scanning bar codes;

  • ComScore: Online spending up 13% to $36 billion in Q3

    Reston, Va. -- Online retail spending reached $36.3 billion for the third quarter of 2911, up 13% versus year ago, according to comScore. This growth rate represented the eighth consecutive quarter of positive year-over-year growth and fourth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth rates.

  • BDO survey: U.S. retailers forecast 2.9% increase in total holiday sales

    Chicago -- Results of a survey released Wednesday by BDO USA found that chief marketing officers at leading U.S. retailers expect a modest 2.9% increase in total holiday sales this year.

  • Urban Outfitters restructures leadership

    PHILADELPHIA — Urban Outfitters Monday announced leadership changes at Anthropologie, Terrain and Urban Outfitters.

    David McCreight has been appointed CEO Anthropologie Group, effective Nov. 15. In this new role, McCreight will be responsible for Anthropologie North America, Anthropologie Europe and BHLDN.

  • Syms Corp. stock to be delisted

    Secaucus, N.J. -- Syms Corp. said that its stock will be delisted as of November 15, 2011 and that Nasdaq will file a Form 25-NSE with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which will remove the company’s securities from listing and registration on the Nasdaq.

    This decision by Nasdaq comes following Syms announcement on November 2, 2011 that it and its subsidiaries filed petitions for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.
     

  • Stop & Shop debuts new format in Mass.

    QUINCY, Mass. — The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company announced that it is debuting a new store format in Chelmsford, Mass.

    According to the company, the 72,000 sq. ft. store will replace the former 38,500 sq. ft. location in Chelmsford.
