  • Society Bakery deploys Cartwheel Register app

    Dallas - Society Bakery is using the mobile Cartwheel Register checkout app from Tantrum Street to conduct transactions via smartphones and tablets. The app includes a back-end system offering reports such as costs, sales information, and item management, available both immediately via phone and emailed daily.

    Society Bakery has improved ordering, checkout and reporting functions since rolling out Checkout Register.

  • Fujitsu partners with OnCue for in-aisle kiosks

    Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Fujitsu is partnering with OnCue Technologies, a developer of in-aisle point-of-information solutions, to resell OnCue Technologies' InfoCue and Expert OnCue mini-kiosk solutions to big-box, grocery, beverage and hardware retailers in the U.S. OnCue Technologies' cloud-based, customizable mini kiosks enable retailers to deliver expert advice and product information to customers in the aisle without requiring employee training.

  • Trade groups unite on payments initiative

    The National Retail Federation (NRF), Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), Food Marketing Institute (FMI), Merchant Advisory Group, National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS), National Grocers Association and National Restaurant Association (NRA) are jointly calling for an open and universal tokenization standard in the U.S. payments system.

    The groups released a statement saying payment card data is currently vulnerable to theft where card information is swiped or entered, where card information is stored, and where it is transmitted.

  • Report: Amazon readies mobile card reader for August release

    Seattle – Amazon.com is reportedly readying a mobile credit card reader for release in August. According to 9to5Mac, the reader would compete directly with similar devices offered by Square and PayPal, and likely connect directly to Amazon’s recently released digital wallet app.

  • Video tour of new TargetExpress; four more locations on tap

    Minneapolis -- Target Corp. has pulled back the curtain on its new small-format store, TargetExpress, in the “Dinkeytown” section of Minneapolis. The 20,000-sq.-ft. store is just steps away from the University of Minnesota. (See the video tour). 

    Target plans to open four TargetExpress stores in 2015, with three locations in the San Francisco Bay Area, and one in the Highland Park area of St. Paul.

  • Visa unveils secure digital payment solution

    Visa has rolled out Visa Digital Solutions, a comprehensive suite of offerings that facilitate secure payments across a broad range of Internet-connected devices and wearables.

    Visa Digital Solutions fall into two main categories of supporting new payment models and protecting consumers and supporting innovation: Support for New Payment Methods and Technology That Protects Consumers and Supports Industry Innovation.

  • First look: Target’s new Express format

    Target opened its experimental Express format on July 23 in a community near downtown Minneapolis designed to give the retailer an early indication of expansion potential for the 20,000-sq.-ft. concept.
     
    The store is the smallest Target has ever opened and is located in an area known as Dinkytown near the campus of the University of Minnesota. Four additional locations are already planned for next year including three in the San Francisco area and one in St. Paul.
