  • Tango messaging service provides full e-commerce

    Austin, Texas – Video and text messaging app Tango is partnering with Wal-Mart and Alibaba to offer full e-commerce functionality inside the Tango app. Tango is rolling out functionality to U.S. users, which will provide them with the ability to browse and purchase items available from Wal-Mart and the AliExpress international shopping site, which is hosted by Alibaba.

  • JCPenney switching gears to growth mode

    JCPenney Company cited strong financial results in the first quarter as the impetus for going on the offensive to gain back share and becoming the “preferred shopping choice for Middle America.”

    JCPenney reported net sales of $2.86 billion compared to $2.80 billion in the first quarter of 2014. Same store sales increased 3.4% for the period. 

    The company has made inroads in recent quarters on its turnaround, and the company may finally be making progress on reconnecting with its core customers. 

  • Havertys promotes executive to VP IT development

    Atlanta - Havertys has promoted Tim Simpson to assistant VP, IT development. He started with the company in 2005 as senior java developer, in 2008 was serving as senior team manager, and since 2011 as director of development.  

  • Private equity firm Roark Capital acquires 155-store Pet Supermarket

    Sunrise, Fla. -- Roark Capital Group, an Atlanta-based private equity firm focused on consumer brands, said that that its affiliate has acquired pet specialty retailer Pet Supermarket from Charles E. West, Jr., the company's founder. Pet Supermarket will remain headquartered in Sunrise, Florida, and continue to be led by Diane Holtz, its CEO.

    Pet Supermarket operates 155 pet specialty retail stores in 11 states generating over $300 million of revenue.  

  • Walmart teams with Alibaba on mobile payment

    Walmart is partnering with Chinese e-commerce powerhouse Alibaba to allow customers to make purchases using mobile devices in 25 of its stores in southern China.

  • Wal-Mart, Alibaba partner on mobile payment in China

    Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is partnering with the Alipay payment services subsidiary of Alibaba Holding Group to offer a new mobile payment option in some Chinese Wal-Mart locations. Customers at 25 Wal-Mart stores in the Chinese city of Shenzhen in southern China are now able to use the Alipay mobile wallet to pay for purchases.
