  • RILA opposed to ‘flawed’ proposed swipe fee settlement

    ARLINGTON, Va. — The Retail Industry Leaders Association criticized the proposed swipe fee settlement and urged class plaintiffs to reject the proposal. Announced in July, the proposed settlement stems from lawsuits challenging the anticompetitive swipe fee practices of Visa and MasterCard.

  • New promotions at Advance Auto Parts

    ROANOKE, Va. — Advance Auto Parts has announced the promotions of Kurt Schumacher to SVP, national field operations and Joe Gonzalez to area SVP.

    Schumacher will lead the company's  nearly 3,500 Advance Auto Parts stores and asset protection. Mr. Schumacher will report to Darren Jackson, president and CEO. Gonzalez will lead store operations in Florida, the Southeast, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. He will report to Schumacher.

  • DSW Q2 sales beat Street; on track to open 27 stores in second half

    Columbus, Ohio -- DSW Inc. reported Tuesday that adjusted net income for the quarter ended July 28 dipped to $30.1 million, from $33.7 million last year. Revenue rose 7.5% to $512.2 million, beating the $510.9 million expected by Wall Street.

    Same-store sales increased 4.2% in the quarter, compared with a 12.3% increase in the same period last year.

    CEO Mike MacDonald told analysts that performance thus far is on track with annual earnings targets and that DSW is on track to open another 27 new stores over the next six months.

  • Former Walmart exec David Hoodis joins Natural Insight's advisory board

    STERLING, Va. — Former Walmart executive David Hoodis has joined the corporate advisory board of Natural Insight, a private retail technology company engaged in workforce management.

His success with numerous leading retailers brings us an added perspective that enables us to stay even further ahead of market need,” stated Stefan Midford, president and CEO of Natural Insight in making the announcement.

  • Best Buy Q2 profit plummets 91%; suspends profit forecast

    Minneapolis -- Best Buy Co. reported Tuesday that profit for the second quarter tumbled 91% to $12 million, compared with $128 million in the year-ago period. Revenue declined nearly 3% to $10.55 billion, missing Wall Street’s estimated $10.65 billion in revenue. Same-store sales fell 3.2% overall, more than the 2.6% drop expected by analysts.

    New York -- Cost Plus World Market has launched a new website as a part of the brand’s strategy to elevate its e-commerce business and provide expanded opportunities for customers to discover more at Worldmarket.com. This is the largest redesign of the site since its launch in November 2005.

  • Stage Stores signs long-term contract extension with Alliance Data

    Houston -- Stage Stores and Alliance Data Systems announced that they have signed a long-term amended and restated private-label credit card renewal agreement for private-label credit card services.
     
    Under the terms of the agreement, Alliance Data’s Retail Services business will continue to provide a full suite of private-label credit card services geared toward driving sales and brand loyalty to grow Stage Stores’ customer base.

  • Uniqlo Pop-Up, San Francisco

    The West Coast is getting its first taste of Uniqlo. The Japanese apparel powerhouse has opened a tech-inspired pop-up store, on Post Street in San Francisco. The temporary store will remain open until the end of September, prior to the opening of the company’s Union Square flagship.
