  • Toys 'R' Us, Kohl's look to fill more than 100,000 holiday jobs

    Toys “R” Us and Kohl’s are among the first retailers to announce their holiday hiring plans this year, and the numbers are more or less the same as last year for both companies.

    Toys “R” Us plans to hire 40,000 employees at its stores and distribution centers throughout the country (about 5,000 less than last year). The retailer also plans to allow seasonal workers the opportunity to take on significantly more hours than in previous years, while also continuing to provide extra hours to current employees.

  • UPS braces for the holidays with big seasonal hiring plans

    It is the season before the season when retailer revelations about plans to hire temporary workers offer insight into holiday expectations. One of the best indicators of what to expect this Christmas comes courtesy of UPS.

    UPS said it plans to hire between 90,000 and 95,000 seasonal employees (about the same as last year) to support the anticipated increase in package volume that will begin in November and continue through January 2016.

  • National Labor Relations Board ‘Joint Employer’ Stipulation Could Change Franchisor Model

    The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is questioning whether to use a broader definition of the term “joint employer,” a move that could bring sweeping changes to the restaurant and retail/wholesale franchisor model. Whether a large fast-food company exhibited more control than it should have over its franchisees was the most recent catalyst for the proposed change, but several earlier cases have challenged the more than 30-year-old standard for determining joint employment.

  • Target employee fitness takes high-tech turn

    Target Corp. is going high-tech with efforts to improve employee fitness. All 335,000 U.S. employees of Target will be offered free or subsidized wearable digital activity trackers from Fitbit Inc.

    As part of the program, management will have a dashboard that can track individual employees by activities such as how many steps they take in a day. The basic FitBit Zip device will be provided free, or Target will help employees pay for a costlier FitBit wristband device.

  • Toys ‘R’ Us taps beauty company vet to head up HR

    Wayne, N.J. – Toys “R” Us has put an executive from L’Oreal in charge of its human resources.

    The toy giant appointed Tim Grace as executive VP, global chief talent officer, effective Sept. 14.

    Grace will oversee all global human resources functions, including organizational design, talent acquisition, succession planning, learning, change management and labor and employee relations, as well as compensation and benefits.

  • Loreal veteran joins executive suite at Toys"R"Us

    Toys“R”Us has looked to a Loreal veteran to take over its human resources division.

    The retailer announced that it has named Tim Grace as executive vice president, global chief talent officer, effective immediately. In this role, the company says Grace will oversee all global human resources functions, including organizational design, talent acquisition, succession planning, learning, change management and labor and employee relations, as well as compensation and benefits. He will report to Dave Brandon, Chairman and CEO, Toys“R”Us, Inc.

  • Another retailer hiring for Halloween rush

    Rockaway, N.J. - In anticipation for the Halloween season, Party City will hire an additional 20,000 employees nationwide.

    The retailer is hiring Halloween associates to undertake a variety of positions at its 900 stores.

    Employees undergo a specialized training program to gain Halloween costume product knowledge.
