    A strong performance by Hollister helped Abercrombie & Fitch Co. beat first quarter sales and earnings expectations even as its namesake brand continues to struggle.    The teen apparel retailer's better than expected quarterly showing comes as speculation about its future heats up. Abercrombie previously confirmed it is in preliminary discussions with several parties regarding a sale of the company. 
  • Office supplies giant names marketing chief

    Staples has added a new marketing leader to its executive team.   Michelle Bottomley has been appointed chief marketing officer. In this role, she will be responsible for marketing across Staples, and helping to promote the company’s focus on its North American Delivery business. She will report to Staples’ CEO and president Shira Goodman.  
  • Williams-Sonoma tops estimates

    Williams-Sonoma Inc. on Wednesday reported better-than-expected quarterly results, fueled by a strong performance at its millennial-targeted West Elm division.    The home furnishings retailer's first-quarter earnings were $39.6 million, or 45 cents a share, compared with $39.6 million, or 44 cents a share, in the year-ago period. On an adjusted basis, the company earned 51 cents a share. Analysts had forecast earnings of 49 cents a share.
