  • Walgreens boosts online presence with Drugstore.com acquisition

    DEERFIELD, Ill. and BELLEVUE, Wash. — Shortly after posting record second-quarter sales on Tuesday, Walgreens announced that it would "accelerate its online strategy" by acquiring e-retailer Drugstore.com for about $429 million, subject to customary conditions.

  • Report: Personalization of store experience is key to retail growth

    Palto Alto, Calif. -- Personalization of the in-store customer experience will be a key objective for retailers over the next two years, according to two new Aberdeen Group reports sponsored by HP.

    According to the 100 senior retail executives surveyed from industries such as apparel, grocery and department stores, 76% do not possess the technology tools or the business processes for executing web, catalog or special orders from stores. This challenge is being fueled by rising consumer expectations of rich, multimedia in-store shopping experiences.

  • Amazon launches appstore for Android

    SEATTLE -- Amazon.com has announced the launch of the Amazon Appstore for Android at www.amazon.com/appstore. According to the company, the Amazon Appstore includes a new feature, "Test Drive," which allows customers to test apps on a simulated Android phone. Customers control the app through their computer using a mouse.

  • Report details moms’ shopping habits

    New York City -- Almost 80% of respondents in a national survey of moms’ shopping habits said that the recession has permanently altered their shopping habits, inducing overall cuts in spending by purchasing items on sale and using coupons. The survey was conducted by the online shopping site Totsy.

  • EnVu and CBL partner on interactive media program

    New York City -- Interactive media company enVu said it has partnered with mall owner CBL & Associates Properties to deploy an immersive advertising platform, enSpire, within select CBL shopping centers located throughout the nation’s Top 20 designated market areas.

    The enSpire platform utilizes interactive floor projection displays that engage consumer interaction with the featured content while providing a memorable experience for mall visitors and enhancing brand recognition and purchase intent for advertisers.

  • Report: Mobile commerce experiencing dramatic growth

    Redwood Shores, Calif. -- A survey released Tuesday by Oracle and Art Technology Group, which Oracle acquired in November 2010, found that mobile commerce is experiencing dramatic growth.

  • Jones Lang LaSalle names Florida managing director

    Orlando, Fla. -- Jones Lang LaSalle said Tuesday it has appointed Carson Good to lead the firm’s retail capital market business throughout Florida.

  • ACI Wordwide acquires ISD Corp.

    New York City -- ACI Worldwide, an international provider of payment systems, announced that it has acquired ISD Corp. to broaden the functionality of its payments solutions for retailers. ISD is a provider of secure payment management software and solutions for retailers in the United States and Canada.

    With the addition of 140 customers from ISD, ACI now has more than 220 retailers worldwide running ACI payment systems.
