  • Lowe’s posts higher-than-expected Q3 sales and profits

    New York -- Lowe's Cos. said Monday that its third-quarter net income jumped 76%, helped by lower costs and higher revenue. Its adjusted earnings without charges and its revenue both beat Wall Street forecasts.  

    Lowe's earned $396 million for the three months ended Nov. 2. That compares with $225 in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 2% to $12.07 billion from $11.85 billion. Same-store sales were up 1.8%.

  • Survey finds Hurricane Sandy has moderate impact on retail supply chain

    New York -- Importers and manufacturers who sell to America's major retailers continue to be optimistic regarding a strong fourth quarter and holiday shopping season, according to Capital Business Credit, a non-bank lender that services the retail sector.

  • Deloitte Consumer Spending Index rose sharply in October

    New York -- Deloitte reported Friday that its Consumer Spending Index rose sharply in October, primarily due to the significant increase in new home prices.

    The Index tracks consumer cash flow as an indicator of future consumer spending.

  • Danfloss helps Supervalu complete first all-natural refrigerant store

    Baltimore -- Danfloss,  a manufacturer of high-efficiency electronic and mechanical components and controls for air-conditioning, heating, refrigeration and motion systems, and provider of energy management and control solutions for the food retail industry, was chosen by Supervalue to provide a range of energy-saving products and support for a remodel project that has resulted in the development of the company’s first grocery store operating 100%  on natural refrigerants.

  • Avon names Patricia Perez-Ayala new SVP, CMO

    NEW YORK — Avon Products has appointed Patricia Perez-Ayala as SVP, CMO and global brand and category president, effective Dec. 3. In her new role, Perez-Ayala will report to Sheri McCoy, Avon's CEO, and will join the company's executive committee.
     

  • Foot Locker Q3 profit surges 61% on strong sales

    New York -- Foot Locker Inc. reported Friday that net income for the quarter ended Oct. 27 surged 61% to $106 million, compared with $66 million in the year-ago period. The recent quarter's results, which surpassed Wall Street expectations, included a $9 million tax benefit stemming from the settlement of a foreign tax audit.
     
    Revenue rose 9.3% to $1.52 billion from $1.39 billion, beating analysts’ expected $1.47 billion in revenue. Same-store sales climbed 10.2%.

     

  • PGA Tour to open first Northeast location

    Roswell, Ga. -- PGA Tour Superstore announced it will open its first Northeast location, in Paramus, N.J., on Nov. 21. The 57,000 sq.-ft. store will offer a selection of golf merchandise and apparel.

  • P&G’s Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program earns Economist Innovation Award

    CINCINNATI — P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program has won the 2012 Economist Social Innovation Award.

    “As a Company, we are both honored by the recognition and inspired by our employees and global partners who have worked to deliver more than 5 billion liters of clean drinking water to families in developing countries, helping save nearly 30,000 lives,” said P&G CEO, president and chairman of the board, Bob McDonald.
