  • Twitter buys Niche, a talent agency for social media stars

    New York -- Twitter plans to acquire Niche, a startup that pairs content creators popular on such social media platforms as Instagram, Tumblr and Twitter's own Vine with brand advertisers.

    Niche, founded in 2013, provides social media creators – its stable includes more than 6,000 – with free, cross-platform analytics on desktop and mobile, and serves as a non-exclusive talent rep to facilitate branded content deals with its network of companies and agencies.

  • Sears a surprise winner in social media

    It may be hard to believe (considering its financial troubles), but Sears was the most popular U.S. department store on Facebook during the 2014 holiday shopping season, according to a new study. 

    The data also show that Walmart.com was the most popular mass merchant store site.

  • Walmart, Sears top study of most popular store sites on Facebook

    San Mateo, Calif. -- A pair of veteran retailers were among the most popular store sites on Facebook during the 2014 holiday season. Sears was the most popular U.S. department store, while Walmart.com was the most popular mass merchant store site, according to a study by Searchmetrics.

    The Searchmetrics study analyzed the number of weekly Facebook likes, comments and shares for pages from the websites of nine top US department stores and three mass merchant stores during November and December 2014.

  • Avenue generates online referrals with ShopSocially

    Pataskala, Ohio – Specialty apparel retailer Avenue Stores is turning its online customers into brand advocates by using ShopSocially’s referral marketing solution to generate referrals from its website users.    By encouraging users to connect with the Avenue brand on Facebook and share their purchases on social media, Avenue is driving word-of-mouth promotions resulting in a referral traffic that is converting at a rate as high as 28.48%.   
  • Cracker Barrel spices up social advertising

    Lebanon, Tenn. – Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is taking a decidedly new-fangled approach to promotion. The casual dining chain has enlisted Nashville-based advertising agency Redpepper to create a holiday-themed social marketing campaign.   The promotion targets a younger, more social demographic with Facebook posts. Some posts in the campaign have received more than 10,000 interactions.
  • Trending: Smart homes and connected Americans

    New York City  - No big surprise that Americans are more connected than ever before, but the newest trend is toward “smart homes” as well. New research from Experian Marketing Services has found that nearly a third of all Americans use at least one type of smart or connected device and 14% of homes are now smart homes, employing connected lights, locks, thermostats, or electrical outlets, among others.  
  • ‘Green Monday’ week sees revenue growth

    Petaluma, Calif. - Retailers were seeing green the second week of December. For the week that included “Green Monday,” Dec. 8, retailers using the MarketLive e-commerce platform achieved a year-over-year revenue growth rate of 11.5%, while visits grew just 8.6%.   
  • Etsy gets social with new e-commerce platform

    Buying and selling on Etsy.com is going to get a lot more social thanks to a new partnership between the Internet retailer and a social commerce platform called Shoppost.

    Shoppost, owned by Zantler, is now officially available to Etsy users and gives sellers the ability to sell their products in-stream on such top social networks as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Tumblr.

  • Party Galaxy grows social traffic 1,500% with SocialCentiv Twitter marketing tool

    Oklahoma City - Party Galaxy might be ready to start its holiday celebration a little early. The omnichannel specialty retailer recently saw a 1,520% increase in its social media-generated website traffic in just 30 days, driven by SocialCentiv, a patented Twitter marketing tool.
