  • What shoppers want when it comes to holiday shopping

    It turns out that the No. 1 retail perk for shoppers is not speedy delivery, according to Deloitte's 30th annual holiday survey of consumer spending intentions and trends.

    The survey shows that free shipping is the top retailer policy preferred by shoppers. Furthermore, the ubiquity of personal mobile devices allows consumers to take their time researching purchases and store policies giving them opportunity to request exactly what they want.

    Now, 13 years later, some of these technologies are becoming mainstream. For example, large retailers like Target and venues like the new Levi’s Stadium are equipped with beacons to customize your experience.

    Store remodels can yield big results, according to Atlas Logistics, with a 7% to 10% increase in sales to existing customers.

    It’s recommended that a complete store remodel occur every five to seven years to keep things current. And such remodels can yield big results in terms of increasing sales, according to Atlas Logistics.

  • Deliv loves New York

    Same-day delivery provider Deliv is strengthening its position in the important New York market.

    Deliv has acquired Zipments, a New York-based same-day delivery company. This gives Deliv more of a foothold and delivery density in New York City, one of the largest markets for same-day delivery in the country.

    Zipments services brands such as Trina Turk, on-demand companies such as Casper, Handy, and Plated, local merchants such as B&H, Murray's Cheese and Epicerie Boulud, as well as large corporate clients who need to send packages across town.

  • Toys ‘R’ Us to open Thanksgiving Day for third year in a row

    While some retailers are taking a stand this year against opening on Thanksgiving Day and even Black Friday, Toys “R” Us thinks its customers will be ready to do some shopping after their turkey dinners.

    The toy retailer announced that its stores will open at 5 p.m. on Nov. 26, the same time as last year. Stores will remain open through 11 p.m. on Nov. 27.

    Last month outdoors retailer REI said it would close on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday. GameStop, At Home and Staples have also announced they would not open on Thanksgiving.

  • Black Friday starting early at Sam's Club

    Sam’s Club is introducing a new way for shoppers to get a head start on their holiday shopping: Pre-Black Friday.

    The nation’s eighth largest retailer and the warehouse division of Walmart is planning to give Sam's Club members early access to exclusive savings on some of the most sought-after holiday items and Thanksgiving meal must-haves.

  • Veteran grocery merchandiser joins Meijer

    Meijer is adding a new senior leader to its merchandising organization with more than 30 years of grocery experience.

    Meijer has named Tod Pepin as the retailer’s senior VP of Foods.
