  • J.C. Penney awarded for top customer service

    Plano, Texas -- J.C. Penney announced that, for the third consecutive year, it was ranked No. 1 among department store retailers in the Customers' Choice survey released by the NRF Foundation and American Express.

  • Report: Kmart testing financial centers

    New York City -- Twenty-three Kmart stores in Illinois and three other markets are testing financial centers where shoppers can cash checks, pay bills, place money orders and transfer money, according to Chicago Breaking Business.

    A Kmart spokeperson declined to comment on whether a bigger roll out is planned, or what the retailer has learned so far from its test, the report said.

    Seven of the Kmart stores are in Illinois, 10 are in Los Angeles, five are in Puerto Rico and one is in Wisconsin.

  • Kmart up, Sears down in December

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- A 2.3% same-store sales gain at Kmart was not enough to offset a 6% decline at Sears resulting in an overall 1.7% decline for the combined companies domestic operations during the five week December reporting period ended Jan. 1.

  • 100th annual NRF Convention Opens in New York City

    The National Retail Federation’s Annual Convention & Expo kicked off  at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Sunday, Jan. 9, with a lineup of power speakers and plenty of buzz. It is the 100th anniversary of  annual event, which attracts retailers from around the world.

    This year, the four-day NRF show featured more than 600 exhibiting companies, new retail technology pavilions, and presentations from a stellar line-up of top-tier retailers. Total attendance was estimated at more than 18,500, with representatives from 70 countries.

  • Target to open 21 stores in 2011

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target is opening 21 stores across 12 states, the retailer announced Tuesday.

    Among the openings include five stores in California, a third store in Hawaii and a SuperTarget in Minnesota.

    “Target takes great pride in designing stores that meet the needs of our guests and the communities we serve,” said John Griffith, Target EVP. “With the addition of an expanded fresh food assortment, our new stores will offer guests everything they need in one convenient location.”

  • Navarro Discount Pharmacies broadens reach

    Miami -- Navarro Discount Pharmacies has signed a lease for a new 14,000-sq.-ft. store in North Miami, Fla. With a store opening planned for the summer, North Miami will be the company's 29th store location and its first new store opening since the airport location opened in 2007.

  • Anna’s Linens extends banks rewards program with Affinity Solutions

    New York City -- Affinity Solutions, a provider of partner-funded rewards programs, announced that it has signed an extension with Anna’s Linens as a client in its bank rewards program, which connects national and local retailers to a network of over 400 banks. Anna’s Linens will also continue its use of the Affinity Dashboard, a proprietary analytic tool that offers retailers access to in-depth consumer spend data.
