  • Buca Di Beppo teams with Transaction Wireless for digital gift cards

    San Diego -- Digital gift card solution-provider Transaction Wireless said Tuesday that restaurant chain Buca di Beppo has selected Transaction Wireless to power its digital gift card program.

    The cloud-based digital gifting platform will enable Buca di Beppo, which is owned by Planet Hollywood International, to leverage channels such as email, mobile and Facebook for digital gift card promotions and marketing initiatives.

  • Toys ‘R’ Us expands Asian foothold with strategic acquisition

    Wayne, N.J. -- Toys “R” Us announced Tuesday a joint venture with Li & Fung Retailing that will expand Toys “R” Us in Southeast Asia and Greater China.

    With the new agreement, the existing Toys “R” Us licensed operations throughout Asia, consisting of more than 100 stores and offices across nine markets, will become 70% majority owned and controlled by Toys “R” Us and 30% owned by Li & Fung Retailing.

  • ‘Tis the Season…already?

    Has anyone else noticed that the Christmas holiday “season” starts earlier and earlier each year? This year, Walmart had their Christmas displays out by mid-September and many retailers were touting holiday sales in October! I still remember when Black Friday was the “official” kick-off to the holiday shopping season and it was surprising to see Christmas decorations up in mid-November. I keep wondering what the real-world implications of this calendar shift might mean – if anything – for retailers’ overall holiday and end-of-year sales?

  • Four new leases signed at Festival at Woodholme

    Baltimore -- Jacksonville, Fla.-based Regency Centers announced that it it has leased 10,774 sq. ft. of retail space to four new tenants at Festival at Woodholme, located in Baltimore.

  • Fuel rewards, inflation drive up identical-store sales at Winn-Dixie

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Retail Inflation, a strong fuelperks! rewards program and increased sales at remodeled stores helped grow identical-store sales at Winn-Dixie Stores by 3.3% during the first quarter of fiscal 2012. This increase was also aided by a 5.5% increase in basket size, but partially offset by a 2.1% decrease in transaction count. The company announced that net sales for the first quarter were $1.6 billion, an increase of $48.2 million or 3.1% compared with the same period in the prior fiscal year. 

  • New York & Co. debuts holiday Facebook sweepstakes

    New York City -- New York & Co. said Tuesday it has launched its debut Facebook sweepstakes campaign, which it will promote through multiple social media outlets.

    The promotion, which runs Nov. 1 – Nov. 16, utilizes email, in-store signage, Facebook and Twitter, and awards a sweepstakes winner a trip for two to New York City, as well as provides gift cards to runners up.
     

  • Jones Lang LaSalle launches mall-based social media programs

    Atlanta -- Jones Lang LaSalle announced Tuesday that it has launched a comprehensive digital media program across its 98 million-sq.-ft. nationwide retail portfolio.

    The firm is rolling out The Scoop customer loyalty program, the My Style social media program and new center-specific mobile apps to deliver up-to-the-minute information on fashion trends, retailer promotions and events.

  • ShopperTrak report identifies 10 busiest holiday shopping days

    Chicago -- A report released Tuesday by retail foot traffic counter ShopperTrak identified the 10 holiday shopping days that will make or break the period for retailers.

    “Since Christmas falls on different calendar days each year, the shift impacts which days are the busiest,” said ShopperTrak co-founder Bill Martin. “Some change in ranking or drop off completely.”
