  • Zale appoints senior VP financial products

    Dallas -- Zale Corp. announced that Ken Brumfield has been appointed senior VP financial products. In this role, he will be responsible for all customer financing, warranty, insurance and repair product offerings.

  • Macy’s appoints a new chief stores officer, and a new CMO

    Cincinnati -- Macy’s Inc. announced that Peter Sachse, the company's chief marketing officer and chairman of Macys.com, will succeed Ron Klein as chief stores officer, effective Feb. 13. Klein will retire from Macy's effective March 31, after 36 years with the company.

    Martine Reardon, executive VP marketing, will succeed Sachse as Macy’s chief marketing officer, effective Feb. 13.

  • Consumer confidence rises in U.S.

    Washington, D.C. -- The Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index revealed Thursday that consumer confidence in the U.S. climbed for the second week in a row, suggesting rising optimism about economic issues.

    The Index rose to minus 44.8 in the period to Jan. 29 from minus 46.4 the previous week. A measure of Americans’ view of the state of economy climbed to the highest since June, according to the report.

  • Limited shines in January

    New York City -- The nation’s apparel retailers reported mixed results for January as shoppers remain cautious about spending in the uncertain economy.

    “It was as tough month as retailers battled holiday hangover, lack of incentive to shop and mild winter that killed outerwear clearance," said Ken Perkins, president of RetailMetrics Inc., in a Reuters report.

    As the first month of the year, January accounts for only 20% November-January sales, and 7% of annual sales, according to RetailMetrics.

  • Staples names former Borders CEO as executive VP

    Framingham, Mass. -- Staples announced the appointment of Mike Edwards to executive VP, U.S. retail merchandising. He previously served as president and CEO of Borders Group and had also served as the company’s chief merchant.

  • Impact Service Group taps Teresa Pitts as VP national sales

    Ridgefield, Conn. -- Impact Service Group, a national HVAC service management company for retailers and multi-location clients, has hired Teresa Pitts as VP national sales.

    Previously, she managed the southern region for Chain Store Maintenance where she was responsible for cultivating and maintaining national accounts.

  • Fred Meyer jewelry division goes mobile

    PORTLAND, Ore. — Fred Meyer's jewelry retail subsidiaries, Fred Meyer Jewelers and Littman Jewelers, which make up the third-largest fine jewelry retailer in the United States, have announced the launch of the Fredmeyerjewelers.com and Littmanjewelers.com mobile websites, optimized for mobile devices including iPhone and Android smartphones.

  • NRF: Valentine’s Day total spending to hit $17.6 billion

    Washington, D.C. -- Consumers are set to put out all the stops this Valentine’s Day, with the average person shelling out $126.03, up 8.5% over last year, according to NRF’s 2012 Valentine’s Day Consumer Intentions and Actions survey, conducted by BIGinsight. Total spending is expected to reach $17.6 billion.
