    New York -- Duane Reade announced that its 250 plus stores are integrating into Niantic Labs' new mobile game, Ingress. The drugstore chain is one of the first retail partners in the New York metropolitan area for "Ingress," which blends the physical and virtual world to create a one-of-a-kind gaming experience.

  • LG introduces allergy-friendly washer

    ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — LG Electronics USA has launched what it claims is the industry's first top-load washer with steam technology certified "asthma and allergy friendly" by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA). 

    In addition, the new high-efficiency top-load washer is designed to deliver superior high-efficiency performance, offering uniquely gentle but deep cleaning capabilities, with the added benefit of odor reduction, the company said. 

  • Tax reform and e-fairness top RILA’s D.C. agenda

    Arlington, Va. -- The passage of comprehensive tax reform and a more level playing field between online retailers and Main Street retailers for sales tax collection top the Retail Industry Leaders Association’s public policy priorities for 2013.

    According to RILA, the retail industry pays among the highest domestic effective tax rates at 36.4% more than 10 percentage points higher than the average for all other industries.

  • Duncan takes the reins at Supervalu

    Minneapolis -- Supervalu on Monday announced that Sam K. Duncan will become president and CEO, effective immediately. He succeeds Wayne Sales, who has served as the company’s president and CEO since July 2012.

  • Safeway gets new finance chief

    PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway on Monday announced the appointment of Peter Bocian as its new executive vice president and CFO. Bocian, 58, will oversee the company's financial functions including accounting, tax, audit, treasury, investor relations, planning and business development. He will report directly to Robert Edwards, Safeway's president, and will assume his new responsibilities on Feb. 19.

  • Bacardi names new chief marketer

    HAMILTON, Bermuda — Bacardi Limited has named Andy Gibson chief marketing officer of Bacardi and president of Bacardi Global Brands.

    In these roles, Gibson will be responsible for the overall leadership and strategic direction of the company’s internationally known portfolio of premium spirits brands. He also will serve as a member of the Bacardi Leadership Team and report to Bacardi Limited president and CEO Ed Shirley. Gibson joins Bacardi in late April and will be based at the Bacardi Global Brands headquarters in London.
