  • Overstock.com has strong Q2

    Salt Lake City – Overstock.com reported substantial increases in net revenue and income for the second quarter of this year. Total net revenue for second quarter 2013 and 2012 was $293.2 million and $239.5 million, respectively, a 22% increase. The growth in net revenue was primarily due to a 21% increase in average order size, from $138 in second quarter 2012 to $167 in second quarter 2013.

    Net income jumped an impressive 687%, from $470,000 to $3.7 million.

     

  • Jo-Ann marks the big 7-0 with sweepstakes

    HUDSON, Ohio — Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores is turning 70, and to mark the special anniversary the specialty fabric and craft retailer is launching a “Share Your Story” sweepstakes on its Facebook page. 

    Customers share their favorite Jo-Ann memories and each week, from July 28 through August 19, two random entrants will be chosen to win $100 Jo-Ann gift cards for a total of six winners. No purchase is necessary to enter or win.

  • Nordstrom Rack to West Palm Beach, Fla.

    Seattle -- Nordstrom has announced plans to open a 35,000-sq.-ft. Nordstrom Rack at Palm Beach Outlets now under construction in West Palm Beach, Fla., in the fall of 2014.

  • Men's Wearhouse expands brand porfolio

    FREMONT, Calif. — Men's Wearhouse has signed a definitive agreement to acquire JA Holding, the parent company of American clothing brand Joseph Abboud, for approximately $97.5 million in cash, subject to certain adjustments. 

    JA Holding is currently majority-owned by funds affiliated with J.W. Childs Associates, L.P. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2013.

  • Rue21 and Sony Pictures Entertainment team for movie promotion

    Warrendale, Pa. -- Rue21 is partnering with Sony Pictures Entertainment to promote the release of "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.” The promotion awards a winner with two tickets to the Hollywood movie premiere; three additional winners receive movie prize packs.

    In addition, Rue21 is hosting two legs of Sony Pictures' 10-market mall tour where fans can see the stars of the film, Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower. Rue21 is hosting the events at the Chicago Ridge Mall (Chicago) and Franklin Mills Mall (Philadelphia).

  • CBRE-Grossman to lease Mohegan Sun in Palmer, Mass.

    Boston -- Finard Properties has appointed CBRE-Grossman Retail Advisors as the exclusive leasing agent for the retail, restaurant and entertainment component of the proposed Mohegan Sun Massachusetts destination resort casino in Palmer, Mass.

    The $1 billion project will feature two hotels, an aqua entertainment park, casino gaming and branded retail stores and restaurants.

  • More users and mobile efforts move eBay forward

    Revenues at eBay increased 14% to $3.9 billion during the second quarter ended June 30 and profits adjusted to exclude the impact of a divested business increased to $822 million, or 63 cents a share, compared to $730 million, or 56 cents a share.

  • NFL to set up e-commerce shop in Chinese market

    New York -- The National Football League has signed an exclusive agreement with Export Now to establish an official online store in China. Similar to its current U.S. e-commerce store, NFLShop.com, the China iteration will sell apparel, equipment and accessories branded with the logos of the NFL and its 32 teams over an e-commerce platform on China's Tmall.com business-to-consumer website.

    The new online store is slated to debut in September, in time for the 2013 NFL season.
