  • RILA taps new VP of privacy and cyber security

    Nicholas Ahrens will join the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) as VP of privacy and cyber security. Joining the association from the Office of the General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Ahrens will lead RILA’s privacy and data security agenda and serve as the lead advocate to the government on cyber security, privacy, data security and related issues.

  • Global Facility Management hires Lennox exec as sales manager

    Melville, N.Y. — Global Facility Management & Construction has hired Jaime Trujillo, a former member of the sales team at facilities services provider Lennox, to its sales team.  In his new role as sales manager, Trujillo will be instrumental in developing new business and expanding existing accounts.

     

  • Vitamin Shoppe CEO to retire in 2015

    North Bergen, N.J. - Tony Truesdale, who has served as CEO of Vitamin Shoppe Inc. since 2006, has announced his intent to retire on June 27, 2015 to spend more time with his family and his external board work. The board of directors of the Vitamin Shoppe will be commencing a search for a new CEO, which will include both internal and external candidates, who will then implement the next stages of the company's long-term growth plans.

    Overstock has updated its checkout system for international customers so they can pay with Bitcoin. Early this year, Overstock became one of the first online shopping sites to accept the cryptocurrency.

    New York — Chico’s FAS Inc. has partnered with Borderfree to expand its e-commerce capabilities globally. Through this partnership, Chico’s FAS will now be able to transact with shoppers in more than 100 countries and territories worldwide in more than 60 global currencies.

  • Five Below Q2 profit doubles as sales increase; opening 38 stores in third quarter

    Philadelphia – Five Below Inc.’s profit  more than doubled to $8.3 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2014, from $4.1 million in the same period last year. Its results beat expectations. The chain issued a third-quarter earnings estimate slightly below Wall Street views, while increasing its full-year sales and earnings guidance.

    Revenue in the quarter increased 30% to $152.5 million. Same-store sales increased by 3.2%.

    Westwood Village, Calif. — Urban Outfitters has opened side-by-side men’s and women’s stores in Westwood Village, Calif. With a 16,556 sq. ft. storefront, the stores are located in two adjacent historic buildings on Westwood Blvd.
