  • Former Walgreen exec joins Roundy’s board

    New York -- BizHive CEO Kim Feil is bringing her retail marketing knowledge to the board of regional supermarket operator Roundy’s.

    The publicly held operator of 149 stores in Wisconsin and Illinois said Feil brings to its board proven retail marketing experience and a keen understanding of consumer insights, marketing strategy and change management.

  • H&M expands in Texas with Golden Triangle Mall location

    Denton, Texas -- Fashion-forward retailer H&M will open a new store at Golden Triangle Mall, in Denton, Texas. The 23,000-sq.-ft. location is slated to open fall 2015, bringing its Texas store count to 15.

    Golden Triangle Mall has recently undergone a redevelopment, with new entrances and facades, center court, performance area and other enhancements. The 765,000-sq.-ft. enclosed mall is owned by GTM Development, a partnership between The McHerring Group and Cencor Realty Services, and is anchored by J.C. Penney, Dillards, Macy’s and Sears.

  • Buckle buttons down solid Q4

    New York -- After five consecutive quarters of declining same-store sales, teen retailer the Buckle may be coming out of its slump.

    The Nebraska-based company reported net sales of $353.5 million, 4.3% higher than the year-ago quarter. Same store sales grew 1.1%. Net income rose by about 1.3% to $60.1 million, producing earnings of $1.25 per share, ahead of analysts’ estimates.

  • Simon names 10 disruptive finalists in disruptive technologies competition

    New York – Retail real estate firm Simon, in partnership with fashion and retail event company Decoded Fashion, has announced the 10 finalists in its "Future of Retail: Meet the Disruptors" competition. The competition's mission is to discover startups in retail or retail-related technologies whose innovations will enhance the shopping experience for future generations.

  • Men’s Wearhouse Q4 loss widens, weighed down by Jos. A. Bank costs

    Fremont, Calif. – Men’s Wearhouse reported a loss of $35.9 million for the fourth quarter, compared with a loss of $30.5 million in the year-ago period, weighed down by costs related to its June 2014 acquisition of Jos. A. Banks.

    Net sales increased 66% to $928.4 million from $560.6 million, aided by the addition of revenue from Jos. A. Bank.

    By brand, same-store sales increased 6.8% at Men’s Wearhouse stores, 8.6% at Moores and 6.8% at K&G. Sales fell 6.6% at Jos. A. Bank.

  • Kirkland’s meets Street with Q4 earnings

    Nashville, Tenn. – Positive traffic and conversion rates helped Kirkland’s Inc. increase net income during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014 26% to $15.6 million, from $12.3 million in the year-earlier period. Net sales increased 14.5% to $178.7 million, from $156.1 million.

    Same-store sales, including e-commerce sales, increased 8.2%.

  • Bon-Ton grows Q4 profit; plans new e-commerce fulfillment center

    York, Pa. – An insurance settlement from a store damaged by fire helped The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. increase net income in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014 to $71.7 million, up 17% from net income of $61.3 million in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.

    Sales grew 3%to $942.6 million from $914.9 million. Top-performing merchandise categories included cold weather and active apparel and home. The company continued its trend of double-digit sales growth in e-commerce in the period. Same-store sales rose 4.3%.

  • Report: Walgreens Boots CEO sees potential for more U.S. drugstore acquisitions

    New York -- Walgreens Boots Alliance may soon be on the hunt for its next acquisition target in the United States, Stefano Pessina, executive vice chairman and acting CEO Walgreens Boots Alliance, told attendees of the Retail Week Live conference here on Thursday, according to a Reuters report.
