  • Jones Lang LaSalle adds 600,000+ sq. ft. in third-party business

    Atlanta -- Jones Lang LaSalle said Tuesday it has been named the new leasing and/or property manager for five retail properties in Arkansas, North Carolina, New York and Ohio.

    The portfolio, owned by a variety of institutional investors, includes open-air shopping centers and a single-tenant property in Manhattan.

  • Simon says Walmart U.S. is on the right track

    Driving same-store sales at U.S. stores is the top priority of Walmart U.S. president and CEO Bill Simon and his boss, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., president and CEO Mike Duke. Both executives stated U.S. comp growth is their top priority on Friday and went on to add that they are confident the company has the right strategy and people in place to make it happen.

  • A&P inks new deal with C&S Wholesale Grocers

    MONTVALE, N.J. — Grocer A&P has entered into a new supply and logistics agreement with its principal wholesale supplier, C&S Wholesale Grocers, that is estimated to generate a run-rate of more than $50 million in annual savings. The revised contract must be approved by the bankruptcy court.

  • Walgreen sales up 5.6% in May, completed acquisition

    Deerfield, Ill. -- Walgreen Co. said its same-store sales role 5.6% in May, better than Wall Street expected.

    Walgreen said pharmacy revenue from those stores rose 6.7% as it filled 7.1% more prescriptions. Front-end same-store sales grew 3.6%.

    The company also said it completed its acquisition of Drugstore.com, an online health and beauty retailer. Walgreen agreed to buy the company in March for $429 million.

  • Boardwalk Fresh Burgers to debut in New Jersey, plans to grow to 200 units

    Woodbridge, N.J. -- Fameco Real Estate said that Boardwalk Fresh Burgers and Fries has signed its first lease in New Jersey at Summit Plaza in Hackensack. 

    The fast-casual restaurant will open a 2,684-sq.-ft. unit at the Stop N Shop-anchored center and said it is embarking on an aggressive franchised store rollout program with plans to grow to 200 restaurants in the next five years.

    Site selection criteria include 1,700-2,500 sq. ft., inline, end cap or freestanding space, and a daytime population of 10,000 within one mile.

  • Japan’s head merchant wins top Walmart award

    Given all the talk of EDLP at Walmart’s annual shareholders’ meeting, it was understandable the company chose Maki Nakamura, chief merchandising officer at Walmart Japan, as the recipient of the Sam M. Walton Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

    Walmart’s Seiyu stores in Japan have been implementing every day low prices for several years, and the company’s patience has finally paid off with improved business results in what has been a challenging market.

  • Walmart Express set to open

    New York City -- Wal-Mart will debut its Walmart Express format on June 8, in Gentry, Ark. The 15,000-sq-.ft.-store will sell many of the product categories that a traditional Walmart carries, from general merchandise to consumables. There is also a pharmacy. But it will have from 11,000 to 13,000 items, compared with the more than 100,000 items found in a typical supercenter.
