  • Riverchase Galleria, Hoover, Ala.

    Alabama’s number-one shopping destination can now say that it is not only getting a new Von Maur department store, but also a full-scale renovation.

    General Growth Properties and Jim Wilson & Associates’ Riverchase Galleria, located in Hoover, Ala., has unveiled a massive redevelopment project that will include expansive updates, modernization, and enhancement of both the interior and the exterior of the property.

  • New CFO to lead new era at A&P

    MONTVALE, N.J. — A&P has emerged from Chapter 11, and tasked with ensuring the company stays on sure financial footing is Raymond Silcock, who has been promoted to the role of CFO reporting to president and CEO Sam Martin. Silcock succeeds Frederic Brace, who is resigning from his roles as chief restructuring, financial and administrative officer in conjunction with A&P’s emergence from Chapter 11. Brace will continue to serve the company in an advisory capacity.

  • A&P emerges from bankruptcy

    Montvale, N.J. -- Grocer The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. Inc. said Tuesday it has emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as a private company.

    The company filed for bankruptcy protection in late 2010 but has re-emerged with operational financing, completed store renovations and new supplier and employee union agreements, as well as new management team, in place.

  • Fuji Steakhouse to open at Southpoint Crossing

    Durham, N.C. -- Jacksonville, Fla.-based Regency Centers said it has leased restaurant space to Fuji Steakhouse at Southpoint Crossing shopping center, located in Durham, N.C.

    The Japanese restaurant leased 6,400 sq. ft. and is slated to open in summer 2012.

    The 103,128-sq.-ft. shopping center is anchored by a 59,160-sq.-ft. Kroger alongside national retailers such as McDonald’s, GNC, Ruby Tuesday and H&R Block.
     

  • Wren and Big Y grocer team toward customer relationship-building

    Atlanta -- Wren Solutions said Tuesday it has launched a retail audit software offering Encapsulon Assessment, as well as a new customer relationship with Big Y, a supermarket chain operating 61 stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

    Encapsulon Assessment enables loss prevention and store operations professionals to streamline and simplify the process of designing, conducting, and following up on audits.

  • Former PetSmart exec to fill new sustainability role at Kroger

    CINCINNATI — Sustainability is a core part of most retailers' strategies, but unless you have someone to lead the charge, those efforts can fall by the wayside. Kroger has taken steps to ensure its sustainable initiatives are met by hiring Suzanne Lindsay to fill the new role of director of sustainability. Lindsay will direct Kroger's internal sustainability initiatives and will lead the company's sustainability leadership team.

  • Retail sales continue to grow in 2012

    WASHINGTON — Retail sales continue to rise for 2012 as the U.S. Census Bureau reported results of February sales on Tuesday.

    U.S. retail and food services sales for February, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $407.8 billion, an increase of 1.1% from the previous month and 6.5% above the year-ago period. Retail trade sales were up 1.1% from last month and 6.3% above last year.

  • Bi-Lo, Winn-Dixie announce completion of merger

    Jacksonville, Fla. -- Bi-Lo has announced that it has successfully completed its merger with Winn-Dixie Stores. The two banners now will be subsidiaries of privately held parent company Bi-Lo Holding. Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie will continue to operate under the same banners, and the company said it does not expect any store closures as a result of the merger.
