  • Sprint RadioShack launches in 1,435 stores

    Overland Park, Kan. -- A new chapter in the ongoing saga of RadioShack started on Friday with Sprint launching retail operations in 1,435 RadioShack stores.
     

  • Bath products and bras lift L Brands in March

    L Brands continued to be a bright spot in specialty retail in March, reporting a 9% increase in same-store sales.

    The company said an earlier Easter and the spring break season helped its March sales increase 6% from the year before. L Brands is the owner of Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Body Works and its own eponymous brand. The company reported brisk sales at Victoria's Secret and Bath & Body Works in March.

  • EBay, PayPal seek to maintain synergy, independence

    San Jose, Calif. – EBay and PayPal are clarifying how they will operate the first five years after their planed split into two public companies in the second half of 2015. PayPal Holdings filed an updated Form 10 with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) laying out an operating agreement that maintains ties between the two companies while also ensuring they remain independent.

  • Amazon gets new approval from FAA to test drones

    New York -- Amazon’s drone testing program has received a new approval from federal regulators.

    In March, the Federal Aviation Administration gave the online giant the oaky to fly drones in research for potential deliveries. But the approval came six months after Amazon had filed the request, and, during that time, the model in question had gone out of date. Amazon submitted a new request for an updated model, and the request was approved in less than a month, Reuters reported.

  • American Eagle teams up with Brad Pitt on recycling

    American Eagle is leveraging the star power of Brad Pitt to launch an innovative denim recycling program that will put needy people in affordable homes.

    Customers can bring their old denim into any of American Eagle Outfitters’ 823 stores throughout the U.S. and Canada and receive a 20% discount on a new pair of jeans. Any collected unwearable denim will be shredded and recycled into UltraTouch Denim Insulation and other building materials for use in Make It Right’s affordable homes around the country.

  • Pier 1 to close 100 stores over three years

    Fort Worth, Texas – Pier 1 Imports Inc. on Thursday reported a declining profit for its fourth quarter and also announced that it plans to close 100 stores as part of a three-year real estate optimization plan.

    Pier 1 reported net income of $33.1 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015, down 22% from $42.6 million the same quarter a year earlier.  Expenses related to the retirement of the company’s former CFO, as well as increased selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses, contributed to the decrease in profit.

  • Report: Amazon Prime shoppers less likely to shop Walmart.com

    Amazon’s Prime membership is starting to crowd out traditional retailers like Walmart and Target, according to Forbes.

    The magazine reports that research consultant Millward Brown Digital found that consumers with Prime accounts –- of which there are reportedly 40 million subscribers –- are less likely to visit other retail sites when making online purchases.

  • Calendar helps Stein Mart sales in March

    An early Easter helped Stein Mart post an impressive 7.9% boost in same store sales for the first quarter.

    Stein Mart reported sales of $244.4 million for the nine weeks ending April 4, a 10.6% increase over that period the year before. The sales growth was especially strong in March, according to the release.

    The company reported $155.8 million in sales for the five weeks ending April 4, a 14.2% increase over that time the year before. Same store sales were up 11.2% for March.
