The TJX Companies announced that chairman and CEO Carol Meyrowitz will step down, effective January 31, 2016.

She will be succeeded by Ernie Herrman, 54, who will retain his current title as president of the company. Meyrowitz, 61, who has been at the helm of TJX since January 2007, will become executive chairman of the company’s board at the time of the CEO transition.

Ross Dress for Less will open a new store in Elizabeth City, North Carolina on Oct. 10. The 18,000-sq.-ft.store is located in Tanglewood Pavilions.

The opening is part of the retailer’s 2015 expansion program, totaling approximately 70 new locations during the year.

Walmart Canada is looking to make online shopping as convenient as possible by partnering with 7-Eleven Canada Inc. to expand Walmart Canada’s Grab & Go locker network in six 7-Eleven stores in the greater Toronto area.

The service offers customers using Walmart.ca a free shipping option where they can pick up their order, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at no cost. This partnership expands on Walmart Canada’s current Grab & Go Locker service, which offers free shipping to 45 Grab & Go lockers in the GTA.

Tanger Factory Outlet Centers has closed on the sale of five non-core outlet centers for a total cash sales price of $150.7 million.

The five properties sold are located in Barstow, California; Kittery, Maine (two properties); Tuscola, Illinois; and West Branch, Michigan.

On the heels of lackluster quarterly sales, job cuts and an overcharging scandal, Whole Foods Market is getting another round of bad publicity, and this time it’s about prison labor.

The retailer will stop selling food produced under a prison labor program. Specifically, it said it will stop selling tilapia sourced from Quixotic Farming and cheese distributed by Haystack Mountain Goat Dairy. Both companies partner with Colorado Correctional Industries (CCI), a division of Colorado's Department of Corrections.
