  • eBay goes omnichannel for holidays

    eBay is targeting consumers across digital and physical channels this holiday season with a new online holiday hub and even in-person selling stations.

    Through Jan. 1, 2016, eBay is running a multifaceted holiday campaign called “Wish Bigger.” A central feature is a holiday-specific shopping site, eBay.com/holidays, which will offer features such as a soon-to-launch holiday heat map that will track what eBay customers are wishing and shopping for coast-to-coast on a weekly basis.

  • A new dollar store brand is born

    A private equity group better known for investing in established companies is creating a new dollar store brand after acquiring 330 Family Dollar stores from Dollar Tree.

    Dollar Tree acquired Family Dollar earlier this year and to satisfy federal regulators, the company agreed to divest 330 Family Dollar stores. The acquiring company is a newly created portfolio company of the private equity firm Sycamore Partners called Dollar Express.

    Earlier this month, Reebok was hit with a proposed class action alleging that the company’s website violates the Americans with Disabilities Act because it is not accessible to the blind. The plaintiffs argue that Reebok.com contains “thousands of access barriers” that make it difficult — if not impossible — for blind customers to use the site.

  • Report: Another retailer powers up same-day delivery

    A major national retailer is the latest chain to start offering same-day delivery in a large metropolitan area.

    According to Re/code, Best Buy is partnering with third-party delivery service Deliv to offer customers in the San Francisco area, including San Jose, same-day delivery of online orders. The official rollout follows a recent pilot of the service Best Buy conducted with Deliv in the greater San Francisco area.

  • Jordan’s Furniture’s new store will put customers on the roaps—literally

    Jordan’s Furniture, known for its larger-than-life stores that combine retail with all manner of entertainment, is outdoing itself in its next location. 

    The retailer is building a 192,500 sq.-ft. store in New Haven, Connecticut—its first in the state—that will feature a massive indoor roap course, billed as  “IT Adventure Roaps Course,” that includes two 60-feet high ropes courses.  Jordan’s is devoting 20,000 sq. ft. to the attraction.

Morgan Chase & Co have launched or announced plans to launch new mobile payment solutions. And retailer-backed Merchant Customer Exchange (MCX) expanded trials of its CurrentC mobile payment app this summer. Retailers like Starbucks are bypassing the middleman entirely and offering mobile payment from their own proprietary e-commerce apps.
