Employers tolerating Cyber Monday distraction
Cyber Monday may just as well be an official holiday considering findings of a new study that show how little work actually gets done.
In a continuing trend from past years, 85% of employed Cyber Monday shoppers surveyed admitted they would be browsing the Internet looking for deals during the workday. What’s amazing is the amount of time they indicated they would spend. The survey conducted by RetailMeNot, a leading digital offers site, revealed the average person will spend four hours shopping online while at work. The biggest drain on their employers’ productivity will be those with children who expect to spend five hour of their workday shopping on Cyber Monday.
Half of Cyber Monday shoppers plan to break down a day's worth of bargain hunting into small segments by shopping online periodically, a behavior encouraged by online retailers who tend to stagger deals throughout the day. Only about 16% of shoppers said they would knock out all their Cyber Monday shopping in one sitting.
RetailMeNot arrived at its findings after surveying 1,027 U.S. resident between Oct. 27 and Nov. 5.
